No, it didn't. Yet. But blaming just camorra is unfortunatelly way too simple. Our problems go deeper than camorra and mafia... just to name one, i believe Italy is one of the countries with the highest number of laws... another one? Taxes. Another one? Best place to exchange money in Italy is in the post office. They do not charge a %. Just daily exchange rate + a 5 euro fee or so. Atleast thats what I did last year.

The list of reasons Russian politics like Italy - overregulated, crazy taxed ... thats what they do in Russia and many ex USSR countries.

In my opinion I would prefer Italy to be as it was 20 years back when I visited Alba Adriatica and Pescara.

Nation character? Come on... you can't be serious. We have differenct characters every 20kms here (not joking)...and you think you can define a whole country character with a cliche?
