We typically pay per unit. So if you are having them write reviews or blog posts of a certain length pay per post. For short bios or movie reviews (150-250 words) we might pay $5 per for example.

You can get non-native English speakers for less than a penny a word on freelancer sites. They're alright if you're not looking for readability, just keyword stuffing and whatnot.

If you're looking for quality content, you're probably going to pay $0.02 per word and up. I charge $0.03 to $0.05, but I've got the adult background that you don't tend to get with mainstream freelancers.

lol @ alien invasion. Normal rates for strong writers is 2 - 5 cents per word. For spun content or copy and paste you can get for 1 cent or below.

By "strong writers," do you mean competent native English speakers? Or do you mean writers who are not merely native English speakers, but those with obvious skill and imagination as well? And where do these types of quality writers, available for adult, advertise their services?

I generally prefer to hire people per post rather then per word, but that depends on what you are going for and how high their general quality is.

I think that's what most quality writers do. I know when I do pieces, I'll ask a ballpark target for the number of words, then charge based on that. I'm working with a webmaster now who wants 300 word posts. I charge him for that length, but the majority of my posts will be between 300 and 325 words or so.

Although, I also know a few freelancers that literally charge by the word. If they've been paid for 300 words, they'll write 300 words.

No wonder all of your sites suck ass. I wouldn't do a blog post for under $200. Not even for my own sites.

I think "strong writers" typically means one step above machine translation. I have not seen one adult blog post or RSS feed that actually made sense. Most of them are written by some guy typing with his left hand while his right hand pounds on his dick.

Being a "competent native English speaker" has nothing to do with one's ability to write imaginative, multi-word (not to mention multi-paragraph) blog posts or articles.

I agree with that, but sounds like you don't regard a "strong writer" as necessarily having the ability to write those types of imaginative posts--just someone who can maker it coherent. Whereas the the imaginative posts, is above strong writer in your analogy. This begs the question . . . is there even a market for imaginative, original writing in adult, where the writer gets payed even more than 5 cents per word?

I've been writing erotica of all manner, adult site copy, blog posts, forum posts, gallery descriptions and ad copy for myself and others for nearly 15 years. Plus a background in writing long before that. If you want someone known, solid and reliable here you go.

My fees are quite reasonable. 31024634 And yes, I'm serious. Are you?

Hey CD, that's cool. Is writing your primary source of income? And do you have no problem finding clients who will pay you substantially above the 5 cents per word rate? Just curious.

It's not the primary source but writing is and has always been an essential part of just about everything I do, both for my own network and for clients.

I've never charged by the word, but if I were to work out what it was based on past work, say most of the erotic stories I sold to a company a few years ago, it was $100 per 4500 word story (give or take, the word range was 3500 to 5000. Over 5000 and the price increased) So that works out to about 2.2 cents per word or therabouts.

It all depends on the size of the project and how much brain activity and imagination has to go into it. An off-the-cuff blog post with a smattering of witt and a dash of filthiness thrown in for 250 words might cost $7 to $10 bucks (in per word terms I guess that's about 3-4 cents per), but a longer piece like one of my 6000+ word short stories would go for more like $150 and up.

And I've sold quite a lot over the years.

For fees I've pretty much outlined all I can sight-unseen (above). I generally have to look at what's being asked for and then think about how much I feel my time and effort is worth. But everyone I've ever written for has said they're happy with the work, happy with the WAY I work (time-frame, etc), and happy with the price.

Genres/niches -- There really isn't much that I can't or won't write about. I've run a lot of sites over the years, a lot of TGP's and such where I promoted a very wide range of tastes and niches and fetishes etc, so I do have some experience with just about every niche. And if it's a really freaky and unknown topic I basically just do a little research on it and us my incedibly massive and rather offbeat imaginitive capabilities to come up with something that fits the bill. :D

Hey, it was great doing business with you. Writing 20 stories for your site was a veritable joy. By all means let me know if you need anything more written.
