It's not the primary source but writing is and has always been an essential part of just about everything I do, both for my own network and for clients.
I've never charged by the word, but if I were to work out what it was based on past work, say most of the erotic stories I sold to a company a few years ago, it was $100 per 4500 word story (give or take, the word range was 3500 to 5000. Over 5000 and the price increased) So that works out to about 2.2 cents per word or therabouts.
It all depends on the size of the project and how much brain activity and imagination has to go into it. An off-the-cuff blog post with a smattering of witt and a dash of filthiness thrown in for 250 words might cost $7 to $10 bucks (in per word terms I guess that's about 3-4 cents per), but a longer piece like one of my 6000+ word short stories would go for more like $150 and up.
And I've sold quite a lot over the years.

For fees I've pretty much outlined all I can sight-unseen (above). I generally have to look at what's being asked for and then think about how much I feel my time and effort is worth. But everyone I've ever written for has said they're happy with the work, happy with the WAY I work (time-frame, etc), and happy with the price.
Genres/niches -- There really isn't much that I can't or won't write about. I've run a lot of sites over the years, a lot of TGP's and such where I promoted a very wide range of tastes and niches and fetishes etc, so I do have some experience with just about every niche. And if it's a really freaky and unknown topic I basically just do a little research on it and us my incedibly massive and rather offbeat imaginitive capabilities to come up with something that fits the bill. :D
