Non US Resident Opening a US Bank Account ???

OK not sure if anyone here will know the answer to this question... I am looking to set up an account for something... I thought they would pay "International Wires" but have been told they only pay to a US bank, with a US routing number ect...

I am wondering if it's possible for soemone in the UK to open a US bank account... this way I could receive the payments, then just wire/transfer it from there to my UK bank account...

I will look up the available american banks, and if need be call them... but thought I would post here incase anyone as had to do something similar already...

If you have a HSBC Premier account they will allow you to open a US account which is based in Buffalo, New York. Think the charge is about a £100.

Also, I think Citibank do it.

Also check Chase or other multinational banks. Let us know what you find out. The question comes up periodically.

US Banks

The new anti-terrorism laws have made it much harder. If you take a vacation to the US, it's a lot easier and that would be a tax deductible vacation. Also having a US address helps. Most people in the US have no concept of the rest of the world. We expect everyone to speak English, pay in US Dollars, have a US bank account. a US address and a US cell phone. Hell, I used to work at the Post Office and some people there thought New Mexico & Hawaii were foreign countries.

Had a friend over from the UK on business took him 1/2 hour to open an account. I apologized about the time. Would have been a lot faster had he had a Social Security number.

When I was at a major phone company, they refused any checks unless they were drawn on a US bank. We rejected a huge payment, even though it was payable in dollars it was from an Israeli bank.

And also what i noticed usa banks dont know for other currencies beside dollar-can you even open a non-usd account there?I europe you can have bank account in any currency you want, yet in usa they deal in USD only like no other currencies exist.I find that annoying since none of usa based business can send non-usd wires.

I bank with HSBC in Bermuda. To open a Premier account here I had to have a minimum of $200,000 in combined HSBC accounts. Not sure about other places.

Citi bank are the only way to go. They have branches in London and Manchester I believe.

Other than that you need to fly to the US to open one.

Other Option

Hire a US Attorney or CPA to start up a US Corporation, then they will open a bank account for you. There are also services that will do that for you, but a Lawyer or CPA is subject to loss of license and the criminal penalties if they fraud you. Other services are cheaper and most are honest as they are subject to the fraud penalties.

For $167 you can form a Nevada corp, use the formation companies address and a person there as nominee front man... For a small fee. You can also remain anonymous, open a corp bank account with Citibank. Piece if cake.

Correct on all accounts.

Even to open up a post office, or dropbox, account now a days you must provide I.D. & comply with additional anti-terrorism fodder. I have been told that it's because they must know who the box belongs too 100%. The banks are the same way. When I used to have to go into the banks to send wires (now I can do from office) they would ask me a bunch of questions on each wire, especially international.

In short, most of the U.S. anti-terrorism banking laws are a major pain.

Nevada, Wyoming and Delaware have no income taxes. All have a different incorporation fee. The thing to also find out does the state have any licensing fees or requirements? If you're not located there, your Registered Agent's office will be your Home Office. What licensing does that city & county have? Can make a hell of a difference.

Nevada may be great, but most incorporaters are in Las Vegas (Clark county) which has a bunch of licenses & fees.

As for taxes though, since you are an offshore corporation, and would control a US corporation, most if not all income would be considered a pass-through and not subject to US taxes. Possibly some state income tax.

There are so many variables. 50 states, thousands of counties and cities. Each with it's own rules.

State I live in has an income tax, but the legislature may have just eliminated it, if it holds up in court. Cost $95 to incorporate. The state and many local areas have no business licenses or fees. FYI standard Registered Agent fee is about $35. Every state requires one. They are they person who accepts service if you're ever served with a summons.
