Biggest Moneymakers of the Past?

What sponsors, sites, or methods USED to make you a shitload of cash.

I always enjoy stories from the 97 era--what were the best ways to make cash that no longer work? Why did they get phased out? Who shut it all down?

back before there was all the tgps, and filesharing shit, I would get one signup after another with maxcash. Back then 25 bucks per free trial. And back then there wasnt all that scrubbing and fudging by the processors.

man, I should have started my first site in the newsgroup days.

sad thing is, I spent A LOT on porn from 96-2001...

I consider it my education - beats going to college.

When Maxcash put the Houston500 on Kara's, it was worth anywhere from 50-100 signups a day from TGP traffic....Of course I think there was only 30 ot so TGPs on the net...lol But those were some sweet ass paychecks....

Cyberthrill.... All thanks to a little web page with a story about a girl with Cancer and a link to Cyberthrill on it that said "webmasters make .20 cents a click" Never saw a dime from those fuckers but that is how I got my start.

I used to have Cyberthrill banners on my Ron Jeremy fanpage.

I made A LOT and never got a fucking dime. So I never made shit, actually.

Sigh, one small banner back then used to make me a few hundred every other month or so... and I had zero clue what I was doing.

Back in '97 I started the 2nd online gambling portal ever... You wanna talk about sweet dollars?... That thing went mad and then I sold it in '99...

I remember doing some porn at the time and I made some cash with a sponsor I don't even remember anymore, but it had something to do with a pig... does anyone know what I am talking about?

Cyberthrill never paid anyone.

And if you gambled on their site and won, you got some email saying you were being looked at for suspicious activity! They would never pay anyone, and owed many webmasters and gamblers cash.

Anyone ever track them down or resolve it? I believe they were in some other country, and seemed untouchable.

The old UltraCash days were good when they only had Ultrateen and were paying approx 55$ then 50$ then 45$ per sale and then someone turned to religion and they were gone, hmmm that was about 5 years a go I think

That's not true. I got a $40 check from them and I still have the scanned check somewhere. They didn't pay me the others $500, but I got this $40 check from them. It was very funny.

I was making some nice money with bimbocash.com

and with stiffycash in the first 2 or 3 months... but they closed my account saying like too many chargebacks, too many refunds or something like that. They closed my friend's account for the same reason. I never got my last pay period check from them. But the others were sweet.

Ah, it brings a tear to the eye.

I'll have to drag out some old worn out stories of my early days.

We wanted to get that domain for our new thing, but Kimmy thought you might actually want something for it. ;>

It doesn't fit the program at all, but I do like sushi.

On both Adult and non Adult:

I remember getting good free Yahoo listings

I remember when Microsoft clicktrade was paying for hits to expedia etc, for 25 cents a click.

I remember when there was nudity/sex all over the big tradshows / IA2000's... then the pasties came.

I remember when a dmoz listing was good [aol, netscape, etc]

I remember when there were fewer webmasters.

There are a lot more people that know how to make $$ on the internet these days.

A good way to detect an industry veteran is by mentioning Xpics.. If they don't get an instant hardon they're a newbie...

My formula was:
Xpics + "No Credit Card Required" blind links + easy top listings..

ahh.. the good old days...
Riverside Digital was the only online content dealer.
FrontPage was in it's infancy.
Domains were $100 each, but with Xpics no one gave a fuck..
Tits.com, Fuck.com etc. were available. But banned..

Anyone remember when you couldn't register 'vulgar' domain names? Those fuckers at Internic had first crack at them when they became available..

I will say that I set up a GammaCash free site when I first started a year ago, and it has made like $60 for 5 minutes work I forgot about. I think a rebill is still active on it, too.

beat this: in 1998 I got a 33,333 prize from UltraCash. Best thing is that I weren't aware of that, the winner was some cheater, they found it and then they took another winner and it was me. Imagine when I got this phone call telling me I won $33,333

As for the money makers, my biggest one was Intergal, too bad they didn't pay (they had the most idiotic excuse ever: wire transfers were lost! ). They still owe me $14,000. XPics was grrrreat! 20 cents for a blind link! I also did some good money with PornFun, MaximumCash and TrafficCash Gold, each cheque no less than $2000 Give me those times back!

When I started out I built sites after work for a few hours each night. About 3 months after starting I was pulling a thousand a week from Max Cash. Damn I miss that.

Used to make $30,000/month with cybererotica alone back in the DMR days. Xpics, Virtualynx and a couple of others were also quite huge. All traffic came from avs traffic. That was a time when you could barely lift a finger and make a few grand. As I look back I regret that I didn't work harder at it back then. I think I only worked about an hour a day. If only I would have put in the same hours back then that I do now.....oh well!

Incorrect.

The first spy cam paysite ever was SneakyPeeks.com

They didn't have a revshare proggie though... they paid flat fee on a selective basis.

My favorite day was the look on the bank cashiers face when she saw I was cashing a $4,000 check from Fuck Productions - anyone rember who ran that one?
There may have been special promo days when they paid $.25 a click-through, but $.12 or $.13 was a bit more normal. Even so, it was good money. It was a snap to get traffic to a site then, too. Many a person who couldn't market their way out of a paper bag were making hundreds of dollars a week back then, and those with real talent were pulling in thousands.

And before anybody tries to run any bullshit past me about XPics, I should tell you I worked for them for a few weeks as a webmaster relations guy. And that was after I'd been one of their webmasters (promoting them) for about a year.

As it turned out, it was all smoke and mirrors and the gov't shut them down. They made their money by making it easy to join their sites and difficult to cancel,

well .. some 3 or 4 years ago i opened an free website account at sexshare.com and then it was a month after that and i was recieving like 1200 uniques per day and earning 3 or 4 bucks a day with it .. the sponsor was maximumcash or something .. (i don't really remember the name) ... Well... sexshare.com then closed my website (maybe because i was burning 2 much bandwidth) so i ended my adult webmaster career. But now I'm back again...
