Setting up SSL?

I got one of those cheap SSL certs from NameCheap so I could play with FaceBook apps - I have to admit its the first time I have needed to do it.....

Is it as complicated as it looks?

Also is it even what I need?! - It was VERY cheap....

It should do the job. Yeah you can get SSL certs for under $10 these days for a non-wildcard ones without all the fancy stuff.

One thing I didn't realize at first, is that for apache to run at all on the server once SSL is setup, the SSL must be configured correctly - that is your non-secure site won't run either, so it's best to test on a spare box if you have important things running there.

As for instructions - it depends on what server (probably apache) and if you have any control panels, as some like Plesk do the configuration for you.

Have you talked with your host about installing it? I know we do these all the time for our clients. Might save you some brain cells and time, ask them.

Thanks!

I think I will just set up a shared host account then with cP. As I said, its just so I can play with FB.

lol - I must be the best customer for a host - I hate asking for anything - I see guys asking for them to set up WP for them and I just cringe....

The other thing is by getting someone else to do everything for you, you never learn anything. If I do it this way and learn from it I consider it another area of knowledge I have.

These days knowledge is power!!
