ClearType in XP - WOW

Anyone else turn this on?

Night and day difference...

Go to Desktop, right-click it and select properties.

Under the Appearance tab, click Effects.

Go to "use the following to smooth screen fonts"

Select "Clear Type" and check the box.

Looks amazing on my new flat LCD screen and laptop!

it smooths the screen fonts in a different way.

once you turn it on, it looks like viewing a laser printer as opposed to dot-matrix.

even if you like your current setup, try it... at least on my LCD, this looks fantastic and I am seriously impressed what a huge jump forward it is in terms of look.

apparently, the default is to have it off - and most companies configure their systems with it off.

not sure how it looks non-LCD, but for an LCD system, I cannot imagine going back now.

ClearType tuner is there... it will let tweak it a bit... the default settings worked best for me.

It's nice. But it uses alot more system resources.

512MB RAM - going to a gig soon.

I got system resources coming out my ass... LOL.

Seriously, this one I think is worth it... not just a minor cosmetic tweak, but a pretty serious one.

I love antialiased text. My Mac has had it for quite a while now, with a number of different settings to fine-tune to different monitors.

It actually looks quite good on my Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox 600 (Pocket PC). But that one is a small LCD/TFT screen. Maybe it looks good on TFTs?

cleartype technology was developed for LCD/TFT displays, it isn't really suited to use on CRT's at all, and usually makes text look worse than without on tubes..

I like the default way better, too.

I read faster on the default, rather than with ClearType enabled.

From what I have read in the past it is supposed to only be used on LCD monitors. So if your trying it on a CRT it may look a little funny

Hence the key - LCD only.

Sorry for the CRT folks who gave it a try and experienced weirdness.
