Decided to buy a Nikon DSLR need lens suggestions
So I think I'm going to pickup a d7000 with much research and input from many GFYers in my last thread. Now I need to look at lenses.
Again, I am not aiming at being a professional, semi-professional or even overyly-enthusiastic amateur. I just want a good camera to take pictures of marathons, triathalons, rock climbing, hiking etc. I'm going to buy a good point and shoot for those places I can't/don't want to lug a DSLR around. I've read lots of good things about the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II AF-S DX lens. Should I start with something like this and maybe one more lens? Buy a different two lens combination? What's a good fit to start? Ideally I'd like to keep lenses ~ $1000 to start.

I use a Sigma 18-200 on my Canon and love it. the 18-55 is usually not enough, and the 55-250 was too much. The 18-200 keeps me from swapping lenses constantly.

18-200 VR all around lens... if it's to big or too heavy to take it around get something "shorter" like 18-105vr or 18-135... also buy ONLY Nikon lenses since most Sigma and similar are just waste of money...

I have this one:
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/1755.htm and it's an absolute beauty - excellent glass. For the zooms, I interchange with the sigma 70-200 f2.8, but that's a bit of a monster and so I need a monopod for that most of the time...
