Not going to lie.. I'm running this now in a vm and am pretty impressed.

I normally stick with Linux Mint Debian - I mean, what's not to love about the Mint menu running on top of the best linux distro ever made? - but I'm going to give this a try for a while.

I paid the 10 euro for the ultimate version, and need to make a bunch of system tweaks before I can give a solid opinion on performance; but so far it's pretty nice.

Probably something I'd definitely recommend to novice users...

And I like the fact that it still maintains the freedom of linux - free as in beer - yes, they have 'premium' versions but they're so low cost it doesn't matter... and from the looks of it, those versions are no different than the 'free' version aside from the additional software that comes pre-installed.

I've been doing a lot of that. For people who aren't sure which version of Windows they have that's screwed up, they don't know the difference been being upgraded to Win7 and being upgraded to Mint. Firefox still works the same. Mainly they just notice it's faster, partly because they know longer have heavy anti-virus dlowing the net down. With distros like Mint or the way I set up CentOS for them, it just works and they are happy. I just have to show them where OpenOffice is. :)

Geeks who like to really understand and have full control like Linux, too. They ones who don't so much are the Windows experts who know all of the shortcut keys, but don't want to learn something new. Them and the gamers.

No. You don't have a clue what it is.

Explain in your own words what Linux is Gary.

I will give you a fiver if you manage it.

Yeah, you definitely need a good system to run a desktop based virtual machine.

I'm currently running on an Asus Z8NA-D6C with 2x Intel Xeon e5620's and naturally vbox runs 100x more smoothly on this machine than on my amd gaming desktop ><

This isn't to say you can't or shouldn't run a vm on a 'standard' desktop pc.. because it's still a great way to get used to working strictly in a linux environment; as opposed to trying to learn the ropes from a live cd or live usb.

Yeah you're right...I was just amazed because my i5 2500k smokes my old xeon in pretty much every task...but when it comes to virtualbox it sucks :(.

Ran the updates and everything failed. Mouse moves in slow motion, wireless stopped working, and more...

Make sure virtualization is enabled in the BIOS. The hardware support for virtualization makes a big difference.
