Irresponsible Dog Owners

Ok, so this morning I am standing outside, in the front yard having a cup of coffee, with my 2 German Shepherds. I hear a commotion down the street and look to see my neighbors dog, a little 20 something pound mutt, attacking another neighbor and her dog. Her dog is a Lab (the Lab was on a leash) but seemed quite intimidated by the smaller dog that the neighbors just let stay outside.

I've watched this little dog actually bite a lady that was jogging by. This was a few weeks ago. She stopped and talked with me afterwards and confirmed that the dog actually bit her on her calf. I'm pretty sure that she called the pound, because they were on the street later that day and of course, that dog must have been inside that afternoon.

I have also seen this dog go after a number of other folks that were walking by. It happens often.

Well, this morning a man walked his daughter right by there to take her to the bus stop and that dog ran at them but the bus pulled up and I think the bus pulled away. The man made a quick get a way across the street and down a perpendicular side street.

Normally, I mind my own business but something just clicked today.

The neighbors house is about 4 houses down and across the street.

My 2 Shepherds are very well trained, I walk them daily with no leash or collar and one heels on the right, one on the left, and they will not leave my side without permission. I have trained them for a lot more than that but won't bore you with the details.

Anyway the dawgs and I walked down and the little mutt barked and charged a bit but stopped when we didn't seem intimidated. The closer we got to his house, the further back he went. He is used to seeing us walk by and has only come across the street once...that time I had my older dog "herd" him back to his house.

This time we walked across the street onto his driveway. The little bully turned tail and ran to his backyard. My dogs seemed uninterested, although one did take a shit in his front yard. We stayed there for about 5 minutes ... with him barking like crazy from the backyard. My hope was that the owners would come outside so that I could tell them that their dog constantly attacks passersby. I heard them hiss at him from the backyard but they would not come out front.

I felt better afterwards just seeing that little coward run away but I sure am tempted to do something to that little mutt. After reading the hunger games we now have a new set of bow and arrows that we shoot outside fairly often and both my teenage son and I are quite good with it.

What do ya'll think, let my big dawgs "play" with that mutt, or as they say here in Louisiana should I "choot'em" with my new arrows, or just mind my own business and let that little "you know what" continue attacking women and children?

So when you walked by, the dog didn't leave it's yard or attack you but you let your dog shit in the yard.

Who is the irresponsible dog owner?

Sounds like you're looking for a confrontation. Nothing more. Did you at least pick up your dog's shit while you stalked your neighbor for 5 minutes? I can't believe people who want to complain about someone, and come off looking like an even worse sociopath.

Oh yeah, Aaron...he charged us. Came across the street and stopped about 15 feet away. When we kept coming he started to back up. The lady with the Lab that I'd mentioned wasn't so lucky. The dog came across the street and tried to bite her Lab, which ran around her and almost pulled her down with the leash around her legs...the lady was an older lady, probably late 60's.

Yep JFalcon, they are pretty good dogs. The neighbors love them. Lots of people from the old folks to the kids know them by name and often come out to pet the dogs.

Bronco, yep I can see that. I was kinda irked with that dog when I watched it attack two people in the spam of about 3 minutes. I wasn't looking for a confrontation as much as I was hoping that the owners (they are fairly new to the neighborhood...within the last 6 months or so) would come outside so that I could tell them that I see their dog confronting passersby fairly often and that I have seen him bite at least one person. Bronco, if you consider a man standing on the sidewalk/driveway in front of someone's house, with a cup of coffee in his hand, while his dogs are sniffing around, for a few minutes "stalking" them, then you are waaay too passive IMHO.

I would have been polite had they come outside. I am pretty sure that they know, though. The day the guy from the pound came by, the dog was no where to be seen but the teenage son of these folks was working in the yard and I saw them talking. I'm pretty sure that they got a warning.

I am tired of watching that little dog attack women and children. The lady that delivers our mail is a really nice lady. She keeps dog biscuits with her and gives them to my dogs and some of the other dogs in the neighborhood. I've seen that dog chargbe her and bite at her a few times. She has never tried to give it a biscuit nor has she used her spray on it (I'm not even sure if she carries that spray). She is probably too nice to even report it. I guess, because I work from my house and am here all the time I notice it more than most folks.

Some people have taken the effort to train their dogs, others haven't.

I have a black lab. This is my first dog, had her for nearly eight years or so. She's pretty well trained; I go jogging with her every morning (no leash). She struts over to me when I call her, and sits when I tell her to sit no matter what. Another dog can enter our yard and be barking at her, and I'll tell my dog to sit and she'll sit down and keep her mouth shut.

My neighbor's dog is another story. They keep that dog in the side yard, feed it once a day, and rarely pay it any attention. The end result is a dog they cannot control. My dog sits in the driveway while I work on my truck and knows where she can and cannot go, while my neighbor's dog gets loose and terrorizes the neighborhood.

I just don't get it. I'm not much of a dog person, but I've got dog trained somewhat well.

Yep Rochard, this dog sounds similar to your neighbor's dog. The weird thing is these folks have a backyard with a gate and they just leave the gate open (it's a gate that goes across their driveway so I assume they just don't want to have to open and close it when they drive in and out). And, they have another dog, a puppy, that is a much larger dog...it looks like a Chow mix and that dog they leave chained in the backyard sometimes...I'm guessing that the rest of the time they keep the puppy inside, but I'm not sure on that one. I've never seen it loose, but as it gets older, if it is confrontational, and left to roam as their other dog is, it will do some real damage.

My dog's are on a leash EVERY time I walk them and the other neighbors let there dogs run all over and shit everywhere. I can't stand that. The 3 neighbors who do this sent my landlord an email telling him my dogs were vicious as they bark when the others shit in the front yard.

I was rollerblading with my lab a few years back, when this little yippy dog came up to us much like you talk about, with no leash well it ran at us barking etc, my dog picked him up and shook him, like he would do to his toys... it ended up ripping off half the little dogs fur.

I felt so bad, but really it was the idiot dog owner that had their dog unsecured that was responsible imo.

My dog isn't usually that aggressive, but because he was leashed and the other dog wasn't, was why it happened imo. Leash aggression I guess.

That dog owner is lucky their dog hasn't been hit by a car or attacked by another dog yet.

My dog and I never have a problem with big dogs. It's those little asshole super aggressive ones that we watch out for. Seems every old lady in Florida has one too.

I live in a village up a mountain, there's loads of loose dogs around. Mine is always on her lead, but sometimes, when 4 gang up on her, we take them on. Me with a big stick and her, she's a mastiff cross and can get a bit grumpy. They're starting to learn not to fuck with us. The owners up here expect you to wack their dogs if they don't behave, so they don't mind.
