Member Password File Deleted...
About an hour ago, the memberfile on a site of mine was suddenly empty. Oddly, three were backup files of the member file from earlier today...so we could restore the passwords without too much problem.
My host techs say they suspect it had something to do with the security program I use, I don't want to mention their names...because I really have no idea it's them. I'm not trying to be vague, but I don't want to suggest something unless I have more evidence. The strange thing is, neither I nor my hosting company can account for these mysterious logs. I have pretty tight security so I don't think it's a hacking problem. Has anyone else had anything similar happen lately? Brutal

Yup had the same thing happen before the reason why it was getting deleted was because my HD was full . My log files were not set to be deleted and when the server ran out of space the first thing it deleted was the password file. Tell them to make sure you have enuff space.

not sure if this might apply in your situation, but when running most Unix-based OS's on webservers, if you run out of disc space (or come too close to it!), one of the first symptoms you will see is your .htpasswd file suddenly reducing to 0-bytes... this happens due to the file being accessed and written to, and when it goes to be saved once again, there is not sufficient space to retain the file... worth checking definitely from what you describe, hope this help..!
