misleading whois information on domain

I own a few domains, and i have a telephone number that is incorrect. The reason for this is that I live in New Zealand and people don't seem to appreciate there is a time difference and will call at all hours (actually most of my domains have my cell #, but this one didn't).

Some other details on the domain are also wrong, but the email has always worked.

Is this so wrong? I have been harrased by this newsgroup news.admin.net-abuse.sightings sending emails to my registrar to try and get my domains revoked, i've had a guy go to a post shop to try and verify owner of my pox box. The didn't bother trying to politely email me first before they did this.

I emailed this guy who went to the post office, and asked what business of his was it, he seems indigant that I invited this by having false whois information. He insists this is the only reason he's doing this I hadn't even done anything to any of these
guys.

Here is some of the correspondence:
http://www.anystop.com/lawson.txt
http://www.anystop.com/lawson2.txt
http://www.anystop.com/lawson3.txt
http://www.anystop.com/lawson4.txt

so question is, am I so out of line here? is trying to protect my privacy so wrong ( i know it's against ICANN T+C) , or is he in my opinion and his own sarcastic opinion a net-nazi.

rooster,

no it's not. I bought a domain that used to be used by a russian spammer (apparently).. i have asked repeatedly what I have done, but there is no mention of any spam (because I haven't done any).

he was alerted because the domain used to be owned by a spammer, now he realises that he got it wrong he is fixated that it's purely about the whois info..

Of course it would make sense if I had been a hardcore spammer.

The guy who started it all just emailed my abuse@registrars complaining about it again..

Try and visualise what you think this guy would look like, and how and what his website would be like..

Now see how close it matches

Buying domains previously owned by scammers can be a nightmare.

Idiots won't believe you, even when you show them the registration date.

Wait until your bandwidth provider decides that they don't believe you, even when the new registration date is right there in WHOIS. It happens.

Not to sure if this is what your looking for but something like this happened to me not long ago and heres the info I got!

GoDaddy has the option to make your information private. Maybe your registrar can do the same thing.

In letter #3, he mentions spammers, and from the context I get the feeling it is a real sore issue for the guy. He's full of shit in saying he is just doing it to get the records correct. He's either after you because of spam or something else.

My guess is he's an antispammer crusader and he's looking to bust your chops. That or he somehow feels he is a victim of some other business activity associated with your domain.

He's trying to play dumb with you and get you to correct your information for a reason. Because his agenda is to find out your real name, real address, real phone numbers etc etc.

Why is he doing that? Hard to say, my guess is he wants to harrass you, intimidate you, maybe serve you legal papers?

Since you have all his personal info, tell him that you'll report him to his employer for stalking you online.

That guy is an asshole, too bad he has so much time on his hands.

He doesn't need a reason to get your domain deleted for false whois information. It is required that you have all accurate information in whois. They don't need any reason to make you update the information and if you don't update it, they can delete it without your consent. It's just the rules.

Get a second phone number and route to an answering machine.

We had one guy a couple of weeks ago who just had all kinds of issues with us. He claimed to be an attorney, and had an email from a law firm in Southern Cailifornia. So, I called their office and asked to speak to their personal manager. I told her... A few lies.... and found out this guy was a clerk, not an attorney. Later that day she called me back and told me he was sent home for a week without pay. Opps.

We had the same problem.

Solution:
We bougt a mail forwarding service and are using that info to feed whois.

He's definitely an anti-spam crusader, but he's insistent that it's just because the whois information is incorrect. He assumed that I'd been involved in spam, and now that he realises i wasn't can't find the courage to go back and say he was wrong.

Although from his emails he is pretty insistent that it was purely about the whois.

I just really don't want to change my whois because it will feel like they've won

here's the last and what sounds like final installment from him
http://www.anystop.com/lawson5.txt

I like how he mentions calling the Police on me, and how he can't see how he's a net-nazi
