Big dilemma
I purchased a ipad before xmas and it turned out to be faulty so i returned it to big-w.
they ordered me a new one and said it would be 2 weeks before it came in.
That same day i found out that another bigw had them in stock so i went over
gave the receipt and picked the ipad up from another bigw not the one i ordered
it from. Know i have just got a call saying my ipad has come in from the original bigw.
So should i go and collect it. am i breaking any laws by pick something up i already have.

I don't think you are breaking any laws and I am sure the original store will sell the one thaat just came in for you without any problems. Just call them and let them know you have picked up another one from a different branch

I'm going to guess paying for 1 ipad and trying to collect 2 is illegal. It sounds like you might be able to get away with it, but the question is: is it worth it? Worst case scenario is that they catch you, call the police and you get arrested. Since the value is over $400 it could be a felony.

You might be able to play dump and say someone else picked the other one up and you didn't realize it, but chances are if they press charges that won't hold up.

Didn't they mark on the receipt when you picked it up at the other store that you had done so?

If it were me I wouldn't do it.

so a different store replaced it already just looking at a receipt and the original store just received another replacement? there's no way that they would have replaced it without looking through the network seeing that you returned it to the original store already and we pending a replacement.

if they don't realize that you already received a replacement when they scan the product, they'll surely realize it in a couple days. usually they make you fill out a form with your identification when returning stuff. overall it's not worth the risk imo.

Normally stores are pretty good at tracking stuff. They might not catch it the day you did the pickup or even a few days later, but eventually they would figure out something was wrong somewhere and it could lead back to you.

In the event that this happens do you want the police to come knocking on your door asking you questions about this? They will likely have you on video at both stores picking up the different ipads so it is going to be pretty hard to explain.

So assume you get caught trying this. your best case scenario is that they just don't give you the second iPad, you play dumb and you leave without any further trouble. The worst case is that they catch you either at the store or later on. If it is later on the they track you down and press charges. I don't know where you live, but if it is in the US that could be a pretty serious charge. You likely aren't going to go to jail for it, but you could become a convicted felon. So is having an extra iPad worth that risk?

One other question? When you say Big-W is that Walmart or a different store? My understanding is that Walmart, even on exchanges with a receipt required you to fill out a form with your name, address and phone number.

You could be just like my friend who was at walmart and they didn't have a good system and they loaded up his high def television (40") in the back of his truck and he figured he'd just drive off with it. He got away with that one.
He's been completely drunk and just narrowly missed ramming the back of a cop car...

Karma does catch up and if you sow enough bad seeds they come back to haunt you, he had an incident with the police 2 years prior for assault and they decided to cook up and start going through their cases. 3 years was the statute on his case and they arrested him. He went through a trial that costed nearly $20k and he pleaded it down to 6 months, he got a felony on his record and got in a shitload of debt.

His wife recently left him too because of his attitude and lack of ambition.

I'm going off on a rant here... do what you want but you should never post something like this on here. Why? because there are still people on here with integrity and when you ask something like this this reflects directly on you and your mentality, not good.
