1.00 If they forget the cheese and peppers
3.00 if they have it :thumbsup |
I tip the pizza guy around 20% so our usual order is just below $30 and I give them $6.
On holidays I go higher, at least $10. My pizza almost always gets here in about 20 minutes, is steaming hot and has extra pepperinis. If there are any issues with the pizza I take it up with the manager over the phone, not the driver. That has only happened once or twice in the 11 years I've lved here. . |
5 to 10 bucks depending

I deliver pizza now, not that I need the job anymore but its fun when you're bored.. I get tipped more than everyone since I know everyone in the area since before delivering and I take 20 mins average so it all depends. Plus my good friends that tip big and pack up a bong are the best (I make about $150 in tips per night + $8/hr)

This thread inspired me to order pizza.
For delivery, I like Dominos. Their new Feta spinach cheese bread is good. Bacon, ham and pineapple please! The tip, usually $5. The guy that always delivers to me is pretty quick. Younger kid and just bought a brand new car. |
Some people argue with me that Pizzahuts thin crust pizza with grease puddles all over it is better than Papa Johns, it's really hard being their friend.
|
I haven't had a good pizza in over 20 years. Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa John's and every other fast food pizza joint is utterly disgusting.
I always end up with a 1/2 inch of uncooked dough underneath my toppings even though I tell them I want it "extra well done". What happened to the regular crust that was crisp underneath, cooked thoroughly and didn't flop over. And what's up with this cheese that doesn't even stretch. Remember when you could sit down in a pizza hut and when you took a slice the cheese was all gooey and hot and melted? Now it's like a layer of mold that just holds the toppings together. Does real pizza not exist anymore? |

You have to find a good, local specialty pizza place. |

So Papa Johns now has the $2 delivery fee that isn't going to the driver.
How is the driver paid though... Decent hourly wage and mileage? I always try to tip $5 for a delivery but if there is a fee I subtract from that. I give the papa johns driver $3. I never know if it is enough. Any insight? |

30,000+ deliveries 6 1/2 years nightshift with Dominos in the 90s.
$5 today would be a very good tip. $3 a decent tip. Back then $2 was a decent tip. $1 was ave (at best). Worst tippers: College kids (espec guys) and overtly religious people with their porches and windows decked out with pictures of The Lord. Best tippers: Gays all the way around and guys staying at hotels/motels. Espec if the guy is alone is often even better. I guess they related. Never got mugged. Did have a scrap or two. Falls were actually a way bigger concern. Had a few (2-3) bad falls and many light falls. In the beginning I "hustled" which was disaster waiting to happen. In the end I was the slowest but never made mistakes which managers love. |

My friends at Papa Johns don't like us since we make a lot more than them, though... |
Falls happen and the worst happened when I assumed in twilight that the cement in a dorm parking lot was level when in fact it dropped about 1 foot for a slight ramp.
If you are running and dont realize there is a 1 foot drop, you are gonna f' your knee up almost for sure. It is the drops that get you not the stuff you trip over altho that can happen too but then you can roll. lol Sometimes a pie got jumbled and returned. :) Shouts to all the old or new drivers :thumbsup 10 hour shifts and 4th floors with no elevators (lots of them) kept me a constant 250-255 at 6'3 even tho I lived on "crew pies". And Dominos is one of the most fattening espec if you eat the crust at all. I wasnt MMA condition :) but noone f'd with me for the most part. But of course I kissed ass and yet it still happens. Tho 6-3 at 255 I was still a lil chubby and guys would cock off from time to time. Get the money and get out of there was the creedo. :) |

i m in village and no pizza delivers pizza here., sucks.,
|
Do they still allow you to throw a couple slices of a crew pie on top of the hot bag and head out the door.
Best part of the job. Cook burns a pizza, usually send it anyhow hehe but sometimes crew pie! I come back from the "longest run" :) (I pleade the 5th on the grounds that it may incrim.. :) drivers hear me tho) and crew pie! Fun job all in all. Got to be a driver tho. Inside sucks. |

There ya go. Usually you cant really tell they are gay for sure but you have a sense maybe and yeah they tend to tip at least something. I had a College in my area so that slowed tips down but then again kept us going on slow nights. As I posted before i still dream of delivering from time to time. But I always f something up royally like being gone 2 hours or something lol :) Pizza guy nightmares I guess. :) But I really just want to deliver a few pies again. Great job. I was always the slowest guy in the place even when the manager at the beginning was making me "hustle" out to the car lol. I eventually put my foot down on that. No hustling. Just error free ball. :) F'n some of these guys are terrors tho both inside and out of the car. They run em all and speed like a mutha. I avd $10 an hour in 1995. $4.90/hour plus 6% commission on $$$ delivered plus keep all tips. Id deliver $400 on a good 10 hour night. Others would go $600-700. But I never made mistakes. :) To the manager it was a tradeoff. You also have to take orders correctly always. :) In the end they loved me even tho I was slow. I knew the area like the back of my hand. |

And lets not forget rushes. (no not the kind you got while on the longest run :stoned )
You arrive back after your first run at 5:20 pm. Manager has about 9 pizzas in 4 hot bags. In the car now with a stack in the front seat, you (the rookie :) ) have to shuffle them and do the run. This is the hardest part. Once you got that down.. of course we ARE Dominos and we mean 30 mins or less. :) So when you got that down, piece of cake. Dont have that down.. nightmare. :) Call, call. No cell phones then. Find a pay phone. :) So the first year was kind of a pain. |
