I must have the exact reverse luck. I have probably only driven without a seatbelt on a half dozen times and probably got pulled over half of those times. Once was when the thing was broken and I was driving down to the mechanic to get it fixed. I got pulled over on the way there, showed the cop that it was broken and he still wrote me a ticket and told me that when I got it fixed they will throw the ticket out. I got it fixed that morning and still had to drive to the courthouse and have an officer come down and see that it was in fact fixed. Pain in the ass.

The funny thing is my Mustang only has a lap belt so you can't tell if I have the seatbelt on or not and I have never been pulled over in that car. they must be profiling me in my POS other car

It's a rule in my vehicle to wear a seatbelt. If you don't like it, you can walk.

When I was back in Los Angeles, I dated a girl who used to HATE wearing it and argue with me all the time about not wearing it because it was uncomfortable. One night we were going out to dinner and she tried to pull the "I don't like wearing seatbelts" thing on me. She ended up putting it on and not even 15minutes down the 10fwy, we were stuck in rush hour traffic @ the 405 interchange. A car came @ 55mph not seeing the stopped traffic in front of her while she was trying to merge and smacked into the back of my truck. The impact lifted me out of my seat and my head hit the top of the windshield where it meets the roof. If neither of us would have had our seatbelts on, we would have flown right through the windshield.

Whether or not they save or take lives, I can say that in that incident, it saved us.

I saw someone say something about motorcycles above... Ride safe out there and gear up. I got smacked at an intersection in October and totalled my ZX10.

My brother in law had an head on the day before Christmas. He broke the dashboard with his chin (old truck, lapbelt only). If he didn't have a seat belt on... He'd be dead right now.

that happens what? once every 5 years and usually involves some gross negligence on the drivers part?

How many peoples lives get saved every day with them though? That happens every minute...

you don't want to wear one that's fine, I wont judge, but preaching to everyone else that you shouldn't wear one is some pretty shameful shit...

seatbelts do more good then bad.

its hard to say what would happen to someone when they are hit in a t-bone type collision. Does the seat belt hold the person who is being hit on the side of their car near their door? does it pin them there, instead of allowing them to be knocked to the side?
Surely more head on collisions or anything that doesn't involve the car being hit directly at the point where the passenger is sitting, in these types of collisions the seat belt will save your life.

If the point of impact is your door and pointed directly at you...perhaps then a seat belt is not good for you. Although perhaps that is also the time you wish you had paid for the extra reinforced doors as well.
Drive safe everyone, winter is coming. Car accidents have claimed a number of people close to me. IMO people are far too cavalier regarding their driving habits.

This thread is a masterful piece of trolling DJ, congrats!

Personally I wear them, the fact that they make you safer is undeniable, but it certainly should not be a LAW for adults to wear them, (or helmets, or friggin' harnesses in the shower for god's sake). For kids, yes, but once you are an adult, it's no one else's business.

I agree with you on that one, but, I think that if you get into an accident, while not wearing one, the insurance company has every right to not pay out.

My life was saved by a seatbelt in 1991. I was asked to wear one that day by the driver, as I rarely used belts at the time.

Today, even when going a few blocks down the street, I put my seatbelt on.
