Not at all....I don't think it was vague, just as is, with no reason or excuses applied.

However, I don't recall any President naming any members of a special operation team before, probably because it's a security violation. And being that he did say "The American people do not see their work, nor know their names" kinda hints that the nameless shale rename nameless, departments, people, branches, etc... I would guess for security reasons, but that's just me.

Yeah Obama should have named them and had a Google maps behind him showing their houses so we could thank them in person.

He intentionally did not specify units and that is the way that it should have remained. It should not be known who carries out specific Special Operations Missions. Unfortunately way to much has been leaked/said about this mission and many others that should never have become public info. :thumbsup to him for at least making the initial effort not to be specific.

You of all people...since you belonged to a secretive branch of the military...should be aware of this. Please stop with the silliness.

BTW...what was your level of security clearance?

They canceled pinning metals on all the persons involved in the action against Osama bin Laden -- no need to explain why ...

You cannot thank unnamed people.

I wouldn't have a problem with a president saying a submarine was involved in something, I think saying just "the men" was insultive. Bush called them special forces, hell even Obama in the past called them Special Forces, but when they killed Osama, they were "the men" I never said anything about naming the individuals, sorry you guys are so quick to judge without realizing that, I'll try harder next time.

Of course epitome has an excuse, he's an idiot

High enough I couldn't tell you, considering the cook had a secret clearance

To call them Special Forces would not be correct. The SEAL's...are members of Special Operation Forces...as are the Army's Special Forces...as well as multiple other units from the Army...Airforce and Marines.

I repeat that specific units of the Special Operation Forces that carry out specific missions should not be identified.

CTSA with the 56th Brigade FA, Pershing. And I agree, Special forces personnel should not be named.

Special forces, or special operations forces are terms used to describe elite military tactical teams trained to perform high-risk dangerous missions that conventional units cannot perform. I don't know all the different departments of the different branches, I did how ever get to work with some UDT Seals training for beach landings. They deserve better than to be called "the men"

While Obama made sure to mention his role so many times, it would have only been fair

arock10 11-13-2011 03:05 PM

You can't really compare congress now to back in reagan's day as nearly all moderates have been kicked out of congress and replaced with far more radically leaning politicians. Congress is just so polarized now and I doubt it will change anytime soon

Anyone on a sub has a minimum secret clearance, many of the crew had higher

I have to agree with you, politicians are working the system by being polarizing and as they continually become more and more against the other side, they lose sight of the people they serve. I just think the president shouldn't be one of them.

I never said they should be named individually, I stated several times that "the men" just doesn't work for me. Special Forces at least

Doing what I did in the military, I understand secrecy, they called us the silent service

I wasn't taking a stance.. That is the problem with having a commander in chief that never served

To call member units of Special Operations Forces..."Special Forces"...other than the Army's Special Forces is not correct and is only done by the ignorant. There is only one Special Forces unit and they belong to the Army.

I wasn't trying to in any way insult them, but was a general statement that gives something better than "the men".

Being a John Wayne fan, I'm well aware of the Green Berets.

To be clear...I certainly did not think you were trying to insult them. It is normally civilians...the media in particular that groups member units of Special Operation Forces together as "Special Forces" and as I have clarified there is only one Special Forces unit and they belong to the Army.

I am pessimistic by nature. I don?t believe that the quality of my life changes that much one way or another no matter which party is in office. I didn?t sing kumbaya when Obama was elected. I knew that they wouldn?t let him change the status quo that much.
However I think he should get some credit for staving off an even bigger recession than the one we are in.
