Occupy Los Angeles

My daughter just called. She had to go to Staples Center this morning to get all her paperwork for a marathon she is running tomorrow. While she was walking from her car another young lady asked her if she was familiar with the area, and specifically, did she know where a Starbucks might be located.

My daughter pointed out a couple locations that might have a Starbucks inside, but there were no Starbucks "stores" in the area that she was aware of.

The girl responded that she had been hanging out at Occupy LA and "really needed a Starbucks and some free wifi."

I guess the corporations are not all bad.

Public companies have existed for a long time and they aren't the problem if they play within the lines.

Did Starbucks get a bailout I am unaware of?

Were they called to capitol hill to testify about them causing the economy to fail?

Have execs been arrested and charged with fraud, insider trading, etc.?

What does Starbucks have to do with OWS again?

Perhaps she should have asked for a McDonald's because it's cheaper coffee.. Is that your point?

I know there must be a story in here that makes sense to you baddog, but I'm really searching and can't seem to find it.

So corporate greed is okay so long as we have our coffee from Starbucks and use our iPhones from Apple while on AT&T...

Can you explain to me which corporate giants I can use, which ones I should avoid? I mean, I'm looking into buying a new truck. Is GM okay to buy from?

Try to make a point? Nobody is against charging what the market will bear. They're against manipulation and corruption.

And for cars, go foreign. I don't understand why we bailed out failing automakers.

Perhaps the ones that aren't asking for govt handouts and turning around and fucking us again just a few months later..

GM on the other hand gave the govt share in it's stocks and has a repayment plan in place and GM has paid nearly half what they received back.

Is Bank of America on a repayment plan? Are the other financial institutions on a repayment plan for their bail outs? Umm na I didn't think so. They took the money and gave their CEO's raises and continued to fuck the tax payers in the ass with out even giving the average Joe a reach around.

Did Starbucks or Apple ask for a bail out? Humm na they didn't.. Now do you understand?

Apple produces a large amount of its product in China and is sitting on one of the largest cash reserves in the world, meaning not only are they raping the standard consumer by severely overcharging and forcing the consumer to be locked into Apple based products, but they also are shifting a massive amount of money to China instead of keeping it right here where they make a large chunk of their money. This was one of the many "1% issues."

For the record, I have an iPhone 4S and HP laptop, both made in China, and I really don't care.

Funny when those who "think different" don't look at what Apple is doing and "think rape"

Cognitive dissonance.

Steve Jobs was like the current day Rockefeller. Ok, maybe not that extreme, but he was very capitalistic. Which I have no problem with really. But we see stat after stat about how Apple users are both smarter and more liberal than non-Apple users.

He overcharges.

Created a mini monopoly.

Sends jobs and money overseas.

Not one hair of philanthropy on his body.

And created the preferred products of self proclaimed liberals.

How can you not laugh at that? The guy was a genius. Leading pigs to the slaughterhouse while they happily trot along.

But Ford didn't take a bailout. So shouldn't I buy a Ford? They have nice trucks too.

What phone should I use? Verizon is raping me to the tune of $214 a month for three phones. Starbucks charges us $6 for a fucking cup of coffee foe Christ's sake.

OWS is protesting corporate greed, but you seem to be able to figure out which ones are good and which ones are bad. So make up a list. Tell us which greedy corporate companies are good, and which ones are bad.

Here in Portland there was a story of a guy that owns a coffee shop next to where the protesters are. They are coming over in droves and using his bathroom and he said he is letting them because they are also buying coffee by the truckload. . . he is an evil genius. He is selling them something that makes them shit, they use his shitter and then like him because he is an independent shop not a chain and is friendly to them so they buy more coffee. That is adapting and overcoming.

You have missed the point... they are not saying corporations are bad... they are saying that corporate interests have overtaken our government and that corporations should not be given personhood... if corporations are made of people why do they need an extra right that the average person doesn't have? I see no good reason why corporations should be allowed to participate in campaign funding anymore than a union should. All "extra" rights by unions and corporations should be prohibited.

Listening people discuss the Occupy Movement is really entertaining, but sad at the same time. Instead of an intellectual conversation about issues that aren't always black and white, the conversation seems to always turn to ridicule or focuses on the most pointless things that have nothing to do with the big picture (like whether the protestors go to Starbucks, for instance. Or sensationalizing the violence surrounding the movement). It's like political TMZ type fluff, entertaining but utterly pointless. This goes for both sides.

Well a lot of these people don't understand they are part of the problem.

And it is a way complicated issue. But really, someone taking a break from protesting to hit Starbucks for overpriced coffee is rather silly.

I love seeing this movement grow though! It's finally getting interesting. I hope it continues, even if people do have to stop and fund the other side they are protesting against.

The Treasury on Wednesday said the banks repurchased TARP investments with proceeds to taxpayers totaling about $475 million. TARP was created in 2008, with its Capital Purchase Program set up for banks hurt in the financial crisis.

Through the repayments announced Wednesday, as well as dividends and interest, taxpayers have recovered about $244 billion of the $245 billion in TARP funds disbursed to banks, the Treasury said. The Treasury currently estimates that bank programs within TARP will ultimately provide a lifetime profit of nearly $20 billion to taxpayers

The six banks that repaid their TARP funds Wednesday are: Fifth Third Bancorp of Cincinnati; National Penn Bancshares Inc. of Boyertown, Pa.; Lakeland Bancorp Inc. of Oak Ridge, N.J.; Stockmens Financial Corp. of Rapid City, S.D.; Bridge Capital Holdings of San Jose, Calif.; and Heritage Bankshares of Norfolk, Va.

They were to use those funds to "unfreeze" the lending market that the Big Banks fucked up with their own poor lending practices in the first place, being kind here and not making any criminal allegations ...

So, the real problem is that the Big Banks took the TARP monies, just sat on the money and fiddled while Rome burned then patted themselves on the back and gave themselves a raise ...

All of this was 100% legal and had no US taxpayer funds been involved is would just be another "business as usual" event. However, when the bankrupt business gets financial assistance with taxpayer funds to reorganize in bankruptcy court the financial losses of all citizens should be equitable -- every one get shafted the same ...

Right, because if its not your point of view, its the wrong point of view.

Got it.

Thanks for the clarification.

Hummmm sounds exactly like the left's treatment of the Tea Party. A fair exchange aint no robbery.

Wouldnt it be cool, if like, all this Occupy Los Angeles stuff suddenly turned out like that movie, Battlefield Los Angeles, and these pissed off aliens started attacking the protestors, and the military rolled in to shoot the aliens, and like, the cops were to busy to help with that shit because you know, they are shooting veterans in the head with rubber bullets and playing with flash bang grenades?

How can you not laugh at that? The guy was a genius. Leading pigs to the slaughterhouse while they happily trot along.
Rockefeller created a monopoly by using thugs and coercion. Jobs built a better product. I believe you just bought an Apple product and there were other options at the time? Kerosine was not sold that way. You sold in your territory which used "security" to keep out competition. Very different business models.
