nook or kindle?
I want to get an ebook reader, my friend has a kindle keyboard 3g, its amazing.. except the keyboard, I like more the touch feature.. so I'll wait for november 21 when amazon will release the kindle touch 3g... any reason why I should buy the B&N Nook instead?

The Kindle Fire has pretty much identical specs as the year old Nook Color. I've got a Nook that we've turned into a full on Android tablet. It runs all the latest 3D games and has no issue playing 720p videos either.
I believe that B&N will be announcing a Nook Color 2 in the next week or so. I'd at least hold off and see what they announce. |

I was thinking to get a B&W reader, I saw the kindle and I like the e-ink technology a lot... I won't use it for browsing, maybe just to read e-mails... the kindle has also free 3G accross 100 countries ( I've read amazon made some deals with mobile operators) , sounds way more tempting for me, I'll drop roaming traffic costs

I would get the Fire, it looks pretty sweet and very affordable. The shaping of it seems kind of odd, but other than that, totally bad ass.

Fire seems ok but :
- no free 3G - no eink : you charge eink reader once / 3 weeks , eink looks very comfortable (I plan to use it 90% for reading) and has 0 glare even in full sunlight. Fire is good to be used as a tablet rather than ebook reader.

It's a great little tablet, but after lucking out and scoring a bunch of the HP $99 firesale tablets (which is also running CM7)...I much prefer the larger size. |

Nook and Kindle are pretty similar now days...
Only reason to choose one over the other is availability of books.. Kindle reads Mobi. Nook reads Epub. Apple, Sony + libraries use Epub. If you know how to de-drm them, you can convert them to either format easily. Otherwise you're stuck reading on the proprietary hardware. |

If you like the size of that one, the Nook/Fire will be right up your alley. |

The deal with the Nook is that it is easily hackable and available now. Mine is overclocked at 1.2 ghz and it's a speed little gadget. There's this amazing WOW clone from Gameloft called Order and Chaos. The Nook has no problem running this game. It impresses me each time I use it. But it's still no $99 HP Touchpad. |

I currently have the HP Touchpad that sold for $99 a little while back. I have the kindle and another ebook reader apps and it works great. That said, it is limited so I might end up getting the Kindle Fire which looks great. I am going to wait until they announce the specs of the new Nook color though.
If I had to buy one today. I would pre-order the Kindle Fire which will be available in a few weeks. |

I have a Dual Boot set up and can choose to boot into Android or back into WebOS. It's pretty cool, and all in all much better hardware compared to both the Nook and Kindle. If you want to trade, I'll send you my Nook for your Touchpad. ![]() |

I got your points but again : I don't need power, I just read articles, books etc on it... no need for gaming, browsing... just e-mails and books
tom21220: the sony looks very stylish and the price is very good ( I expected $300+ from sony) however I'm kind of sold on the free 3G the kindle has... I remember I paied over 50 euro for mobile internet last time I was in switzerland, just for getting e-mails ( server push option enabled on the iphone ) .. fuckers
