i am in the uk, but you should be ok.

in the uk, i think anything under 5cc is not legal on a motorway (but i forget).

those cars are fine though.

i belive they are based on the old french car.

i have chatted to a few people who have smart cars. many do long milege so they have them.

they are fast too.

an estage agent has a fancy car but drives this for work (the smart car) as it has his business logo on it, cheap to run (he drives all over looking at houses), and as its small its easy to get about.

I think Honda have a reputation for low fuel consuption too, and there cars last and last.

also daft as it sounds, you can get indian made cars that are cheap on fuel. in the uk we have the gwiz electric car. popular in london. its sold in other countries under a different name. but in the uk they called it gwiz so people did not know it was indian made.

my mate had a ford ka. that was cheap on fuel. but it rusted with ease.

My dad gets about 60mpg in his Prius.

I had a Highlander Hybrid that got over 35mpg.

Our first Mini Cooper got good mileage too.

Honda used to have a CRX in the mid 90s that got 55mpg and was a gas only engine, not hybrid.

Nissan Leaf?

Watch top gear ASAP if you are even thinking about getting something as pathetic as that car. 13 hours to charge the thing.

Ford Focus, Hyundai Veloster, Chevrolet Spark or Cruze, all get over 40mpg

Or wait til 2013 for bmw i3 More on that as soon as I can post a new thread.

yeah im weary of electric, just noting that mpg hasnt really increased at all really. Old Hondas in 90s did 30+ and now decades later with all technology all they can give is 38-45 mpg?

how come everything else in this world has quadrupled in productivity and technology, except gas engines...? it doesnt even make sense to have such lack of forward progression in such a powerful industry.

it makes perfect sense, cars get better, you can charge more, cars get cooler features, you can charge more, care get better gas mileage, fuel companies make less money. Gas mileage will go up for the most part, only based on government regulations.

from what I have read, and I know there is a lot of bunk info out there, I am pretty sure that most cars with under 200 hp, that weigh less than 3,000 lbs can be made to get close to 70 mpg.

you can buy engine computer programmers that will give you 20% more fuel economy, spark plugs that will give you 5 to 6% more fuel economy, a K&N filter system will give you several more horsepower, and still give you a couple % better fuel economy.

when you buy a car, it is specifically engineered to give you shitty fuel economy.

the issue isn't just caused by the car companies themselves, most people don't realize this, but you get 6-7% better gas mileage on a asphalt road then you do on a concrete road. Here in Windsor, they are making more and more roads concrete, because they don't get as many potholes, and the need to be resurfaced less. But they are a lot shittier to drive on, and they cost drivers money.

so, the government spends 3 times as much to make a road concrete, effectively making it more expensive to drive on.

then they do the opposite with the same effect, to save money, we use traffic lights instead of overpasses and underpasses. It costs a couple million to make an underpass, so we just throw in a traffic light, which is the biggest reason cars get shitty mileage in the city

33,500 for the base model is a little high for a little car like that

Like I said in the BMW thread, I would never ever buy a fully electric car. They have so many problems.

Ford Focus is 59mpg anything rated 4.8l/100km is about 58/59mpg. You could probably get more if you can coast it. Don't buy a Manual and you will get better fuel economy aswell most probably. I've noticed on a few cars I have been looking up that the Manual version have slightly worse fuel economy. Not sure if true, but manual is just stupid in this day and age anyway unless you plan on going off-road.

Not at all. I own a black IQ. It's not like my VW Golf TSI ofc, but it does 140-150 Kmh with no problem (though it takes a while to get there) and it's not wobbly like the smart car - or nearly as noisy.

It's a great city car, easy to park and does 18-25 km/l. It also has all the luxury you want (aircon, heated seats and mirrors and so on). Only you can't really sit more than 3 people and if you are over 195 cm high, it's not too comfy.

Actually it's always the other way around, manual = less fuel consumption. Automatic = more fuel spent per mile.

At least in EU cars haha

Hmm, probably depends on the situation. If you start going up a hill and you can get it into the proper gear quicker than an auto could than yeah that might help as an example.

Going back down the other side of that same hill the Auto will probably coast better.

I dunno, just noticed it on a car the other day that the Manual was .2L worse in the city and on the highway than the Manual. Think it was one of the new(er) Hyundai models.

Well if you look at the tech specs of cars, they all (again, I only look at cars in EU) list manual as having a better milage.

Naturally it all comes down to the driver in the real world and with all the fucking cueing, I wish mine were automatic ><

Here we go, this was the one I noticed it on. Only shows on the city and overall .2 more on the manual and .1 overall. No different on highway economy.

http://www.hyundaicanada.com/Pages/s...model=Veloster

And yeah, the way you drive is another thing. Lots of places to coast where I am, barely touch the throttle.

This is also interesting, City better for Manual, Highway better on Auto:

http://www.hyundaicanada.com/Pages/s...x?model=Accent

Obviously depends on the car aswell.

Not sure about that specific car but manual cars have always been much better on fuel economy.

by the way the top gear on nissan leaf turns out it was a fix. it turns out that it did not run out of power.

however these electric cars still seem expensive, when you think that the batteries need changing from time to time and they cost almost as much as a car.

you could opt for an electric scooter.

they seem cheap and go miles on a charge, and re-charge quick. some the battery lifts out so you can charge it very easily.

one option is to buy an old deasel car and use cooking oil.

somone said my old 306 would run fine on used cooking oil. but i do so little milage that its not worth the hassel.

A friend of mine has a civic hybrid and is getting 48-52mpg. I think that'll be my next purchase. My jeep gets 12mpg and up to 14 on a good day. I don't even drive it much anymore for that simple fact.

I can't tell you which cars have the best mpg when it comes to fuel, but I CAN tell you which car has gotten the best mileage per cumshot. MPC, as it was...

My old 1986 Omini GLH had a better jizz per mile consumption than any car that I - or any of my friends - have owned since. I doubt that its record will ever be beaten.
