| Irish Confessional Box Irish Confessional Box An Irishman goes into the confessional box after years of being away from the Church. He is amazed to find a fully equipped bar with Guinness on tap. On the other wall is a dazzling array of the finest cigars and chocolates in the world. When the priest comes in, the Irishman excitedly begins..."Father, forgive me, for it's been a very long time since I've been to confession, but I must first admit that the confessional box is much more inviting than it used to be." The priest replies "Get out. You're on my side." |

				 | A bit more than $30k including missed pay and missed bonuses (for projects delivered), but I'll settle for $10k at this point to put it behind us. I'm nice like that. |

It was 3 paychecks @ $6,250 each, one $10,000 bonus payment, and at least half of another $10,000 bonus payment (although I contend that it's owed in full because of the failure to pay my base salary) .. so $33,750 to $38,750. Not too much, and I'd take it in payments, barter, or whatever form he prefers.

I'm "approaching" you in this thread because other methods have failed. You keep saying you'll hit me at some point, or just laugh it off. I assume now you aren't laughing, so maybe this was the most effective way. Would you prefer another method? Of course I'll update the thread when we're settled up so everyone knows you're honorable and take care of your debts.

				 | Actually, speaking of MMA ... if you'll get in the cage for 3 five-minute rounds ... if you WIN, you owe me nothing. If I win, you owe me the full $38,750. We'll split any sponsorships, too .. and I'd be willing to do it at an adult convention. Think of the publicity GTS could pull from this. What would you have to fear from a "failed" MMA competitor? |

				 | Here's the ICQ conversation we just had. I added our names to it (it's confusing otherwise), but made no other edits of any kind. I did it very quickly because we're leaving for dinner then to pick out house furniture/decorations, so if there are errors, I apologize. I'll be back later, if I remember, to read replies. Quote:

				 | Apparently, because I posted on GFY after 4 years, Mark can tell me "with 100% certainty" that I am now not getting paid .... Because apparently I was about to, any time now. I might have to change my mind about making a thread. Or web page. Or personal e-mails to everyone I know they do business with (remember, I was the CTO of GTS). I'll decide soon, and then act. I guess I'll base it on the next move. Maybe Mark was just reacting hot-headedly and intends to make this right. |

The whole reason I took such a low paying job (I was only guaranteed $75,000 per year with two $10,000 bonuses) was because my contract included an opportunity to sell my products as "branded" GTS products. GTS was to leverage their sales force to sell my stuff, and I'd share in the profits. Later, when this didn't happen, Mark told me on the phone that his guys were "too dumb to get it" (which was NOT my impression of his team -- I found many of them to be very smart and capable). Instead of that mission, I was tasked with building a system for Submit Passes and an accounting backend for GTS. Many of the webmasters here probably used my built-from-scratch Submitpasses system, actually --- it was the one with the orange color scheme. It functioned well, but someone of only moderate skill tried to shoehorn in some ill-advised features after I left. I built these systems, and that's when the payment weirdness started. Devin, who was in charge of operations at the time, can verify any and all of this. He still ICQ's me to this day about how Mark tricked me and took advantage. It disgusts us both.

And remember: you might lose, and be OUT even MORE money. "Worth it" suits begin in the six-figure range. I didn't go after Playboy for $60,000 slam-dunk open-and-shut, so I'm certainly not going after GTS for $38,750. Five-figure suits are hard to even find attorneys willing to pursue them. Write it off as bad debt on your taxes and move on. Speaking of taxes, I estimated my taxes for that year, and included the money GTS was supposed to pay, so I guess I got hurt twice on that money. Now, if you're saying $38k is sitting on the sidewalk, I'd tell you that anyone would bend over and pick it up .. that's common sense. But people toss around "I'LL SUE YOU" over $200 on GFY; it's just ridiculous sometimes. | |

				 | I see why you won't go to court over that amount, I've been taken a few times for $5k or less and really there isn't much recourse other than making it public and letting other know about your experience. Court costs are high, and even if it's a small claims amount you still have to spend on travel costs. So bringing it to the court of public opinion is the cheapest and most effective way of getting back some of your cash. I don't know the story other than what I've read here, but for someone to say they aren't paying because the code or job wasn't good then you should have been told that right away and corrected it, otherwise it's just a bs excuse to screw you on payments owed. Hope you get paid man. I'm trying to get paid from a company that is very active here, sadly I just want my deposit back on a job that they couldn't complete and have been chasing them for months. Even the threat of going to the boards doesn't seem to matter, imagine if their hosting clients found out they don't have any reserves if something goes wrong, yet they are still dragging their asses to pay me. And I'm owed about 10% of what you were fucked for.
