Basically, that's what happened, yes. I'd have been happy to settle it out for some peanut-like amount, but with what he said, I might want to just cost him 5x the business instead. I'm resourceful.
I think you missed the entire point of my post, though ... it's not about what's owed, it's about what you can collect. Remember, too: even if you win in court, you still have to then go to the mats to collect the money.
