If your talking about computer over clocking do this.

Change the CPU multiplier to about 8 - 11x the system bus speed.
You should be able to do this from the bios or open up the case and you'll find jumpers or dip switches to do that.

And make sure you upgrade the fan on top of your CPU to a much better fan or install a second fan if your mother board supports it.

No point of over clocking it too high , because your programs will start fucking up, because the Memory bus wont keep up with the speed of your CPU, and the CPU will go into too many

" Wait States".

Find the default multiplier thats currently set on your CMOS settings and just increase it by 2 or max 3.

id be careful if you decide to overclock, you can seriously fuck up your cpu and with that being said it depends on what motherboard you have and what bios it came with. for example i run an asus A7V333 and when i go into the bios it will automatically let me overclock it to the speed i want. but if your motherboard didn't come with a bios that lets you overclock you might have to flash it to a new bios ( what this does is replaces your current bios with a new one ) that enabled you to change the multiplier. but flashing your bios can fuck up your motherboard. im tired so im sure im not making much sense heh, so let me list a few sites that you can get a more experienced person to help you:
http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi
http://www.overclockers.com.au/

i learned the basics off of those sites and sites linked within those, just be sure you have $ to buy a new comp incase you fuck you yours

i have an opposite question.

are there any hardware sites out there that AREN'T all hard about overclocking? i don't really care if my 3000Mhz CPU can go 3050Mhz with a soldering iron and glue.

My recommendation Seaz by the way you're speaking, don't O/C. I don't think you really fully understand what O/C hardware means and what can happen, or even be able to detect possible signs that damage might occur soon. I've seen way too many guys that talk like what you're saying go out with too little knowledge on how everything works and try to boost stuff up, and bitch other people out because you didn't get the results you wanted or you had problems.

Overclocking should only be done by people that
A) understand what they're doing, not just following steps on a site or magazine.
B) be able to afford to replace your ENTIRE system in case the absolute worst happens.

If you want a faster gaming machine, buy a new CPU and more RAM. And make sure you got a GF4 128MB video card. You'll be flying. If you can't afford that, then you don't qualify for the simple rules I spoke about before.

yea be sure you can afford a new computer incase you fuck yours up, took me weeks of reading before i finally got the balls to flash the bios on an older comp i didnt use to a bios that let me set the multiplier higher. or if you have any old comps laying around those are good to practice on.

oh and if you want a fast system you can clone mine:
asus A7V333 motherboard with an amd XP 2200+ overclocked to 2.2ghz
512 ddr ram
32x speed cd-rw
12x dvd player
geforce4 ti 4600 128 ddr ram
40 & 30 gig hd's at 7200 rpm's
of course cable connection is a must
sound card eh i dont even remember what mine was, its shitty but my Klipsch speakers make them sound good
