    28 September 2011

    It is with great regret that Etology announces its intentions to cease operations effective immediately. During the last several months, a combination of market conditions and the need for additional investment to maintain the same high quality of service and technology demanded by the company, its customers, and its investors mean that the business is not economically sustainable. This was an extremely difficult decision to make, especially given the wonderful team of people working for Etology who will be impacted by this action.

              Damn. I don't understand how a business model like theirs can go under at the size they are/were.

              Weren't they one of the premier networks/click-brokers at one time? They were all over the tubes, MGPs etc. Unless they were hit with a ton of fraud, or had big fancy offices and over-paid employees...

                                                  A few weeks ago I visited a video store in downtown Montreal that had a pretty wide selection including stuff I couldn't find anywhere else, and saw that they were liquidating their stock and closing their doors.

                                                  Out of all the customers in the store, one guy stood out from the rest. He was just standing there watching people running around looking for deals. I noticed his name tag and assumed he was an employee, and asked if he knew any reasons why they were going out of business.

                                                  He turned out to be the owner or the video store. He talked about how much life he put into his business and how he just couldn't complete anymore thanks to downloads and piracy, and how he was also losing his house since he borrowed against it to keep his business alive, and almost missed the birth of his baby because of the late nights he had to put in. The poor fucking guy began to tear up right in front of me, crushed that he was losing his business and letting his staff go.

                                                  Maybe you should think twice about making comments like that. Just because you think some people close up shop and run off with the cash doesn't mean its true. Comments like yours dismiss a lot of people and the serious amount of hard work that businesses. Who are you to do that?

                                                              Mark, you seem to miss the mark (no pun intended) pretty often and are quick to defend people that you have 10 minute conversations with.

                                                              In this case, the comments that you are replying to are being made about internet companies that either had a lot of affiliates or did business with several other companies that they owe money to. It is very common when these internet companies close up that they screw a lot of people and most of them will purposely miss those last couple payments so they can keep a big chunk of cash before they close the doors.

                                                              Now what in the world does that have to do with a guy who owned a brick and mortar video store? your last paragraph you trying to scold the person who made the comments when his comments have nothing to do with the person you are referencing. What is wrong with you?

If companies have to make money, there is no way to sustain the traffic prices that were edged up by companies like AFF.
