I fucking hate it when...

I program at night and get tired... Then get to a point where I can't figure out a way to do something I want to do. I sit there for three more hours and nothing...

Then I wake up, look at the problem and instantly know the answer.... and could have... should have.... gone to bed instead of racking my brain for those three hours...

I get this feeling too... But if I am up all night, up all day and sleeping in 4 hour shifts getting shit done, my mind starts telling me this is the last thing I need.... Suddenly it is day 3... 4... and I am like.. dammit... I should have showered, slept and been a bit less confused...

When I'm real tired and want to get work done before the morning its hard for me to sleep because when I'm in work mode I can't stop until it's done, even when I'm half asleep brain dead I still some how get things done but half the time if I'm wide awake.

just watched a show on dream on the science channel where they are now able to prove most of your dreams are your brain practicing and figuring out problems you might have in the future or past.

They proved in an experiment that someone who played a video game the night before, woke up and was 10% better than he was before he went to sleep, and had abstract dreams about beating the game throughout the night.

So you would in fact be going over solutions to problems while you sleep and might actually wake up with the answers.

You tend to be able to process information better when sleeping. It's probably because there is less interference. If you didn't spend 3 hours on it the night before, you might not have been able to solve it in the morning.

I remember a 60 minutes episode about the leading brain surgeon in the US... He said he literally dreamed the entire operation the night before so when he went in it was like doing something he'd already done before.
