I fucking hate it when...

I program at night and get tired... Then get to a point where I can't figure out a way to do something I want to do. I sit there for three more hours and nothing...

Then I wake up, look at the problem and instantly know the answer.... and could have... should have.... gone to bed instead of racking my brain for those three hours...

Deej 08-24-2011 04:33 PM

I hate that too!!!! Seems so easy in the morning!

wehateporn 08-24-2011 04:35 PM

Some people's brains don't work well at that time

raymor 08-24-2011 07:21 PM

Yep I keep relearning that I should only do really simple stuff when I'm tired, and get some rest if things aren't working.

marlboroack 08-24-2011 09:18 PM

Yeah dude, that's always a bitch. Shame brains need rest eh.

cutedimples 08-24-2011 09:33 PM

Yeah Yeah a few professors kept urging us not to spend all night studying (cramping) and told us how important it is to get enough sleep before an exam. :)

New memories are formed within the brain when a person engages with information to be learned (for example, memorizing a list of words or mastering a piano concerto). However, these memories are initially quite vulnerable; in order to "stick" they must be solidified and improved. This process of "memory consolidation" occurs when connections between brain cells as well as between different brain regions are strengthened, and for many years was believed to develop merely as a passage of time. More recently, however, it has been demonstrated that time spent asleep also plays a key role in preserving memory.

It often helps to take a break when your stuck with something. Take a walk or do something else, and when you get back to it, the solution is clear as day.

This is a touchy topic...

I get this feeling too... But if I am up all night, up all day and sleeping in 4 hour shifts getting shit done, my mind starts telling me this is the last thing I need.... Suddenly it is day 3... 4... and I am like.. dammit... I should have showered, slept and been a bit less confused...

HerPimp 08-25-2011 05:06 AM

and to add to that frustration you forced yourself to stay up drinking energy drinks.

I love it when you have a problem for that long and it turns out you spelt a variable incorrectly :1orglaugh LOVE that soooo much!

AnimeFevers 08-25-2011 05:42 AM

When I'm real tired and want to get work done before the morning its hard for me to sleep because when I'm in work mode I can't stop until it's done, even when I'm half asleep brain dead I still some how get things done but half the time if I'm wide awake.

ottopottomouse 08-25-2011 05:46 AM

I always seem to think of the solution to a problem when i'm away from trying to solve it intensively.

preach bro!

buildingfutures 08-25-2011 06:29 AM

You know you're looking at it completely wrong, right? It's a damn good and awesome thing you wake up and actually know what to do.

You realize there are thousands of problems you can sleep a week on, wake up, and still not know the answer.

Wasted time or not, you got the answer, be grateful you have the skills to make that happen :thumbsup

gleem 08-25-2011 07:54 AM

just watched a show on dream on the science channel where they are now able to prove most of your dreams are your brain practicing and figuring out problems you might have in the future or past.

They proved in an experiment that someone who played a video game the night before, woke up and was 10% better than he was before he went to sleep, and had abstract dreams about beating the game throughout the night.

So you would in fact be going over solutions to problems while you sleep and might actually wake up with the answers.

JamesGw 08-25-2011 08:00 AM

You tend to be able to process information better when sleeping. It's probably because there is less interference. If you didn't spend 3 hours on it the night before, you might not have been able to solve it in the morning.

John-ACWM 08-25-2011 08:05 AM

Sure experienced that for myself...

I remember a 60 minutes episode about the leading brain surgeon in the US... He said he literally dreamed the entire operation the night before so when he went in it was like doing something he'd already done before.

My Pimp 08-26-2011 03:03 PM

Your brain works at night. It finds the solution.
