I bought from a FFD and what I bought was in the factory box, no modifications at all and 100% legal. I don't have the desire, inclination, nor motivation to modify any gun. I'm lazy. Hell I take my guns to a dealer to get them cleaned. That's how lazy I am. I don't need or want your help. I think it best you just stay out of my threads.

You need to read what I wrote. I did NOT accuse you of intentionally intending to commit a felony; I wrote that if you get to fucking around with AR-15s and don't do it the right way, you COULD commit a felony without intending to but that fact would make no difference in the eyes of BATFE.

Most people just don't know how much trouble they can get into and for that matter, many FFLs don't know the law very well!

This actually happened; a guy at a shooting range had an AR-15 pistol. He also had a long (16 1/2) top and a should stock. He installed the shoulder stock on the pistol BEFORE he took off the shorty (9") top and there *just happened* to be a BATFE Agent there who arrested him for "manufacturing and possession of an unregistered short barrelled rifle". No shit and it stuck.

Had he removed the shorty top or installed the long top BEFORE he installed the shoulder stock, he would have been fine.

This is how technical BATFE can be and they HATE ARs, AKS and MACs, so with any of these firearms you realy have to watch your step but you seem to know it all, so I'm sure you will be fine.

FYI...and no offense meant....

An AR-15 with a 6" barrel is pretty useless if it's chambered in 5.56. With that short of a barrel, you lose a ton of velocity. You may want to consider changing it over to a 9mm.

The most common AR-15 caliber is 5.56 but it is offered in several additional calibers.

7.62x39
.204 Ruger
6.8SPC

Etc...

The M60 is 7.62x51 (.308) while the AR-15 is available in 7.62x39.

I built a CAR-15(now called the M4) about 20 years ago. I ordered all of the parts through Olympic Arms in Washington state, and snapped it together myself. I got some help with the barrel torquing and gas tube, but everything else I did myself. I even made my own rounds.

I just picked up two of these for $499.00 each. Wanted something fun and not so loud to play around with. I noticed the conversion kits to 22 were like $150 so I think buying them as dedicated 22 is much cheaper like this. Haven't shot them yet, guy at store said that standard 22 may not have enough gas to load the rounds, I'll find out soon enough LOL

More and more companies building these recently. There is definitely a market for them. IMHO, it's a better option than dropping in a .22 conversion kit.

Troy Industries released a new stock for the Ruger 10/22 this year. It's $300 but pretty damn cool and a great way to reconfigure any old 10/22's to something a little neater.
