Paul Krugman And Ron Paul Agree: Debt Ceiling Deal Sucks

The truth, according to Rep. Ron Paul (R, Texas), is that there are actually no cuts at all in the new plan. ?The ?cuts? being discussed are illusory, and are not cuts from current amounts being spent, but cuts in projected spending increases,? wrote Ron Paul. With only 2% of cuts taking place before the next presidential election, according to Zerohedge, the truth is that Washington is about to pass ?a bigger budget than ever? despite heavy rhetoric, said Ron Paul, who put it like this:

Quote:
[The debt ceiling deal] is akin to a family ?saving? $100,000 in expenses by deciding not to buy a Lamborghini, and instead getting a fully loaded Mercedes, when really their budget dictates that they need to stick with their perfectly serviceable Honda.
- Ron Paul

On the flip side is liberal economist Paul Krugman, who in his New York Times opinion column called the deal ?a disaster.? Krugman notes that the economics of the plan are completely flawed given that cutting spending in a weak economy will lead to further weakness. Indeed, it will actually worsen the budget situation, making the economy weaker and reducing revenues.

The vote was 269-161 to pass in the House.

The battle is over for now.

Now they all can brag how they made the other guy cry. This is really schoolyard stuff ...

good ole ron paul talking out of both sides of his shister career politician flip-flopping ass mouth

Quote:
U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) was one of only four House Republicans to break rank from the party and request earmarks despite a Republican Conference earmark moratorium. Paul sent 41 earmark requests totaling $157,093,544 for the 2011 Fiscal Year. His largest single request was $19,500,000 for a naval training ship at the Texas Maritime Academy in Galveston, followed by a $18,126,000 to provide maintenance on the Matagorda Ship Channel.

For Fiscal Year 2010, Paul requested 54 total earmarks, adding up to $398,460,640 in pork that the former presidential candidate sought to bring home to his district. These requests were made prior to the House Republican Conference?s voluntary ban on filing earmarks.

WOW!! Ron Paul disagrees with a politically charged decision that government makes. Didn't see that shit coming! Pretty fucking unusual if you ask me.

They might agree that the debt deal is bad, but for entirely different reasons.

hahaha you're more sophisticated than that?
Ron Paul has been bucking the system for as long as he's been in congress and is fed up with fools voting for non constitutionalists... he won't run for congress again.

It takes patriots to defeat the globalists. President Paul will give us the means and philosophy to restore the republic.

What does Ron Paul do other than complain and sponsor bills that have no chance of making it to a vote? Seriously, he seems to be running a scam where he lives a cushy life as a Senator but never really gets involved and just takes pot shots from the sidelines.

I like some of the stuff he says, but he needs to engage in the process, not just talk about ideas that are impossible to implement and bitch from the sidelines.

But yes, this deal is a joke on many levels.

1) Run for President, promising that you will buck the system.

2) Get elected.

3) The owners of the country tell you how the machine is run.

4) Comply, or face the consequences.

The end.

Ron Paul would be no different.

Earmarks are where the money is returned to the taxpayers community. Otherwise it stays in Washington to be blown on million dollar nuts and bolts.

Agreed except #4 what consequences when you follow the constitution and the people are behind you? No matter what the elite globalists try to do, when the people are constitutional patriots as is their president... the globalist elite are done.

Yeah, I can see you've really done your research, seeing as how you still believe he is a Senator.

I never claimed to be Ron Paul expert, but it seems that you are. So tell me all of the things he does other than bitch from the sidelines and collect a paycheck. Tell me all the caucuses he heads up. Tell me all the initiatives that he's spearheaded and followed through with.

He seems to have all the answers. Tell me how he's turning them into reality. Show me those things and I'll be a Congressman Ron Paul fan just like you.

Ron Paul is a lot like someone who has a great idea for business and wants to sell just the idea for millions. Having an idea and actually turning that idea into a reality are two very different things. This country needs someone who can turn ideas into reality. We all know what the problems are, we need to know how to fix them within the context of our current system. He seems to be a little light in that department.

That's all I'm saying. The average Joe on the street pretty much knows what the problems are in this country. Just because Ron Paul says those same things in public doesn't change or fix anything. Sure, his fans all yell "Ron Paul gets it" but then he doesn't do anything.

Like I said, I like what the guy says at times, but he never does anything and I doubt he ever will other than make waves every now and then so he can keep his congressional seat.

Sadly, thats about right. Hope they get the Balanced Budget Amendment passed!
A) won't happen even so would take YEARS to get passed. Try to understand how Constitutional Amendments become law.

B) Such a thing would be a disaster right now. Just to get to a balanced budget, which doesn't even allow for any money to go towards paying off the $14 trillion we already owe, we would have to cut EVERYTHING( including military, SS medicare etc etc ) by 40% if one insists on not raising taxes. Even if you repealed the Bush tax cuts for everyone not just the rich, we'd still have to cut EVERYTHING by 20%. And as I said that just keeps the debt at $14 trillion is doesn't actually reduce it.

They want to deal with the deficit now not because they give a fuck about spending. They spend like drunk sailors when they are in power. They have done this time and time again. Dick Cheney said deficits don't matter. The plan is to cut spending so the economy stays depressed and unemployment keeps going higher so they can get Obama out. They dont give a fuck about this country. Now I blame the spineless in chief for playing the game with them. Watch when they take it all, they will start spending at level that will boogle your mind.

Yes, I'm an expert because I know he's a Congressman and has never served as a Senator. Any schmuck who took the time to put his name in a search engine could have found that out.

Did I accuse you of claiming to be an expert? No. I simply pointed out that you couldn't be bothered to check on the guy's employment status before repeatedly moaning about his cushy job as Senator. Now you want me to spend time educating you in the hopes that you will somehow become a fan?

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Step 1 - Go here: http://www.google.com/

Step 2 - Enter said politician's name.

Step 3 - Do your own damn research.

lol. Why are you so upset that I accidentally said Ron Paul was a Senator and not a Congressman. Geez, get some get some fresh air, you seem a little uptight.

Second, whether or not he's a Senator or a Congressman was inconsequential to my point which makes the fact that it bothered you so much that much more perplexing.

Finally, if you are Ron Paul supporter, my question still stands. Tell me how he's turning his radical ideas about changing the system into a reality. Honestly, I want to hear it. I already checked his Wikipedia page that outlines legislation that he was a part of, but it's all random bills that any long time Congressman would have accumulated.

He always claims the country is about to fail, yet he seems pretty laid back when it comes to putting together a real solution. Or am I wrong about that?

Wouldn't a man who claims the country is facing imminent failure be a little more motivated to change things instead of just talking about it, especially considering his position, popularity, and virtually non-stop fundraising?

Look, I like the guy, but he runs a game just like every other politician. His game is just a bit different.
