A groom was arrested at his own wedding reception over the weekend. Now some guests say police beat the groom while he was handcuffed. A mug shot of Jake Twombly shows his eye swollen shut and blood coming from his nose.

According to the police report written by an off duty, uniformed officer working security at the reception, Twombly was drunk and pushed his groomsman, Travis Cullen "So hard he lost his balance knocking over a ceramic column breaking it and into me sitting on a stool against the wall". The report then says Twombly "Was trying to fight everyone." The officer immediately called for back up.

"I think (the) cop did a good job," Police Spokesman Sgt. Brent Harris says, "Sharp actually. Some officers may forget to call for help thinking they can handle it, you know?"

Other officers arrived. The report indicates Twombly tried to fight with them. He was eventually cuffed and taken away

But Ravis Cullen, the groomsman who police say was shoved by Twombly, says most of the report is an outright lie. "They got our names right," Cullen says, "Other than that...I guess I would have to call it falsified."

Cullen admits they had been drinking and Twombly playfully pushed him and he fell into the off duty officer. But he says that was no reason to call for back up. "I said 'Hey man you ok?' and I patted him on the shoulder. I said 'Sorry about Jake. He just gets this once in a while. If you ignore him he'll come up and give us a hug and say he's sorry.' And he said 'Oh, no problem.' I turned around and that's when he radioed that he needed back-up," Cullen says. Back-up arrived and Cullen says that's when police beat his friend. "They got him down. Two police officers put cuffs on him. He was laying on his back and this Cody Grimes, which I'm not even going to refer to him as officer because I don't think he deserves that title, was hitting him repeatedly. Repeatedly. Repeatedly. If it was a UFC fight the ref would have stopped the fight ten punches ago." Cullen explains, "The only crimes that were committed that night were committed by the police officers."

Police insist Twombly was cuffed but never beaten by officers. "No indications of anything improper," Harris says, "He was handcuffed. He was arrested."

The groom is refusing to comment under the advice of his attorney.

This is not the first time Officer Cody Grimes has been in the news. Back in May, he opened fire on a suspect that police say was trying to run him over. And back in October of 2010, he mistakenly shot at a KCCI photojournalist who matched the description of a suspect Grimes was looking for.

I've seen enough police brutality and other misconduct and the results thereof to know that some of them are pure scum. The rest of them, the so called good apples, have no problem covering up for the bad apples. And in the extremely rare case that one of them does dare to stand up against the crimes committed by the 'bad apples' then that 1 good cop usually ends up in an extremely weird accident.

I have seen cops sigh and do basically nothing when you report a property crime.

I've seen and heard off duty cops brag about crimes they've committed.

I've been told to my face by a cop that the truth doesn't matter. They decide what the truth is.

I've seen how cops protected their off duty colleague who had deliberately driven a child (that was riding her bicycle) off the road into a ditch.

I knew a guy (went to school with him) who became a cop. Let's just say that his reward for telling the truth when 2 of his colleagues robbed and beat a prostitute half to death was to be deliberately crippled by his colleagues. All of the good apples knew what had happened. None of them did anything to stop it. None of them did anything to bring the bad apples to justice.

Year ago I was at a wedding reception that was going well but I had to drive a friend home. When I got back, the parking lot was filled with cop cars and they where hauling off dozens of those there.

While I was gone, the groom and the bride's father had an argument. Someone called the cops and when they showed up, one of the two pushed the cop of out the way telling him to mind his own business.

At that point the dweeb ass cop called in for assistance and they came, in loads and in fact, even the Police Helicopter showed up.

The cops began to riot pretty much, swinging clubs at anyone in their way including some women, then hauled off everyone they beat up saying they assaulted cops. One of my friends was at the wedding in a walker from broken femur he had. Like he was a threat? A guy in a walker?

It ended up with the Anaheim Police firing several officers and a huge lawsuit which the City of Anaheim had to pay out. Being fresh out of law school, I was one of those who got most of my friends released that night.

It was a major mess and since then, I've never had the same view of cops.

Example: In one of the Oslo bombing threads I questioned a news report that claimed that the bomber used a 6 ton fertilizer based car bomb. I pointed out that it's impossible to get 6 tons of fertilizer in a car. It's even impossible to put 6 tons of fertilizer in 2 cars (as was later reported).
As it later turned out, I was right. The bomber had used a much smaller amount of fertilizer to build his bombs. Some of it had been used in tests. The rest was stored on his farm and later destroyed by the police.

Why did I think it was important to point out that that part of the news report (the 6 ton car bomb) couldn't true? Because if the reporter was wrong about that, it is possible that he was also wrong about other details.

Why have I posted articles and videos about police brutality in the past? Because I've noticed a tendency amongst people to stop thinking when a police officer is involved and just assume the police officer's side of the story is true even if there's video evidence of for example cops slamming a wheelchair bound guy head first into concrete.

and i feel for ya if that's your experience with the police, i know there are the rodney kings out there who've had nothing but bad experience. it's just not mine, after all my years and however many run ins with the police. i've had a few more than i care to have, on both sides of the law.

I never said it was rocket science. I meant that using simple common sense it is possible to find mistakes in for example news reports and that that should tell people that it's important to keep using their brain and think for themselves instead assuming that everything that they're being told is true. And that's no tinfoil hat conspiracy crap, it's just the way things work. Reporter don't always know all the facts, they make mistakes... imo, there are so many issues with this. the biggest of which, you have to know- such a lopsided portrayal alienates several (many) [most?] of those you are claiming to try to be helping.

it's also not based in fact whatsoever. if so, i'd like to see the facts on good cops supporting bad cops.
