the debt ceiling should adjust over time as things are constantly costing more, not less.

Its always adjusted over time. Its almost on a straight vertical trend right now. Thats some really massive adjusting going on...

Debt has to be somewhat in line with revenue. It can't strongly outpace revenue. The problem is simple... government outspends revenue. It has nothing to do with the cost of goods and services and so on.

How much money are you leaving on the table by choosing to not do business with a person over personal beliefs?

This door swings all ways, including those that do business with them simply because what was said.

Personally, I try to play a balance game. Debate and argue a bit, and post in the need info/help business type threads. But I've gotten into with more than a few people on here, even with some clients and my largest affiliate. Even told a few people off, in not so nice ways, and oddly... people still do business with me, if business needs to be done.

If you have something I need and you're not a total fuck up, I'm going to do business with you. Anyone not willing to do the same, is willing to give up money for other peoples opinions, and that's just ridiculous. It could be a lot more than some money on the table, it could be vaults of money... never walk away from business, if the person is legit, the deal is legit, rock it and ignore what they say!

I didn't say anything about political beliefs. I said people who insult people because of political beliefs.

If you think I left money on the table by avoiding epiccash, try again. They didn't pay a cent more per sign up or have anything any different than at least 50 other programs.

If you are running a signature here and attempting to build a successful business, insulting potential customers or affiliates is not the way to do it. If you believe it is...good luck.

That would depend largely on what circles you do business in.

But in most cases, bad publicity is not good for longterm growth.

Well its like the average household. Cost of everything increases but working wages do not, if anything they are decreasing. People are buying groceries on credit because the increased cost of living in no way keeps up with what they are making. I am no political pro, just an average guy and thats how i see it.

I know this is redundant, but an individuals personal beliefs are not my concern. I have no issues doing business with anyone that handles themselves in a civilized professional manner. If you are prone to flying off the handle and need to enter every debate or discussion with insults and threats, that tells me enough about the personality.

If I had no shortterm solution,it would be high on my *list of things to do* to find a new source for that service or product. Everyone is replaceable.

TheDoc 07-22-2011 04:51 PM

Oh come on Minte, you're going to let some half political-personal attack, bother you, on a forum called go fuck yourself?

99.9% of us here, if you put us in any other spot on the Internet, facebook, email, phone, some other social site, and so on, we would never say the shit we do on here. That's before the half-personal attacks.

GFY is a special place, even more so in these political threads, and even more because so many, non Americans play the game too, giving us every twist of political idea possible. You don't get banned for having an opinion that isn't inline with the admin, you don't get kicked for calling someone a douche bag, and at the end of the day... everyone comes back tomorrow for round 100000000 and business is still getting done.

Let it go... because you can't go anywhere else on the Internet and get what you get here. It's not personal man, it's gfy!

It's your business, and your time..... I guess my rule is to forget about what happened yesterday when today starts, each day is new opportunity, and being that I am on a political thread on a forum called gfy, I tend to let most of what is said slide.

But not all of it. :winkwink:

i believe in two things when speaking about your chart..

1) the debt ceiling should never be more than a % of the GDP..

2) you dont spend money you dont have, whether a person or a country...

Well... that was entertaining. Not sure what planet you live on where people are taking out bank loans to buy groceries because they can't afford groceries. It would seem obvious to anyone who could add and subtract that if you have to use credit to buy something every few days because you can't afford that thing... then you also can't afford to pay the loans back either.

Not sure why you think any of that has anything to do with government continually spending in a manner that dramatically outpaces revenue and revenue growth.

You have to resort to all this extreme, moronic and extraneous rhetoric, because you have nothing else.

Simple fact... you can't keep spending more than you have to spend without consequences. Even a child can understand this simple mathematical reality.

Apparently, you can't.

It's ok though. Not everyone is meant to be an astronaut. Some people have to shovel the shit, drive the trucks and bag my groceries. Think of it as being useful and your life having a purpose.

if the US wasn't fighting useless wars and had a 1 billion per year defense budget, that would go a long way in fixing current problems. its all corrupt and doesn't serve the people in any way, shape or form any more. do i want to see friends and loved ones die to "fix" some kind of problem i didn't have any real role in creating? no. the debt is just "made up" more or less. it doesn't exist in actual money. its all a stupid game that the average person will end up paying for, in many cases, with their lives. and for what? raise the debt limit to infinity. does it really make a difference? it will never be paid back at what it is, or what it was.

Are you really this much of a child? The debt is real. It is real money. It's packaged and sold in many forms to investors. It has to be paid back with interest. It does matter. Defaulting on interest payments would be catastrophic both to the US economy and global economy.

Yes I am that much of a child. I don't want my life to be effected by bullshit i had no choice about. do you want to regress 100 years because politicians see more value in fighting wars than caring for their people?

You do understand they want the money NOT for primary social programs, but to feed the military because if they cut back that money, millions come home unemployed to a job market with NO jobs.

They don't have a real solution accept temporary disaster prevention. It's got to stop sometime and although, I'd never thought I'd ever lean republican, it's a must to just get it over with and start fresh or make drastic cuts to save what little we have left.

having 'millions' in the military is part of the problem. most of these people would be on welfare if not for the military, which would actualy be cheaper anyways. i'd rather they wait until im gone to 'start over'. i like my cushy lifestyle. what did you or i ever do to deserve an economic collapse. i've never collected welfare or asked for a handout or indebted myself more than i could pay back.

It has nothing to do with wars or caring/not caring about people. Wars or not, the problem was there regardless and was growing regardles, just as it is for many western/asian nations. Greece is not about to default on their debt because they are fighting wars and don't care about people... same for the other countries that are on the verge of default.

You really seem to have no clue at all - but you have all these emotionally driven, irrational opinions on the subject which have nothing to do with either the topic or the problem/solution.

So true marketsmart, the middle class is running scared.

I would like to be able to say the politicians (either party) "don't get it", but, they do "get it". They just don't care. By and large they only care about themselves and lining their own pockets. The vast majority of us middleclass folks tend to be hard working, law abiding, tax payers who believe in the senators and congressmen we elected.

They told us their plans, they listened to our ideas, they smiled, they shook our hands, they kissed our babies. Then, a high % of these pricks turned on us like cross dogs.

All that being said, the middle class is running scared, they don't know who to believe.

I understand your thoughts Minte but realistically it's just another forum. I would never make a business decision based on someones personal feelings. Especially their personal opinions about something as volatile as religion, politics, or abortion.

Flip side of the coin though is this: I wouldn't want a company rep expressing personal opinions about any highly volatile subject.

It's all about the money, you're both at fault IMO.

Minte, I think you are taking this thread a bit seriously, sir, imho. I see your point and you have been here much longer than I, but I don't think this is a personal attack on you or anything. Of course I cannot talk for the OP, but even you would have to admit that these times that we are living in are "interesting" to say the least.

I respect a large majority of people here and sometimes it is very cool to get everyone's perspectives on issues, etc. On the other side of the coin, you, of course, bring up a very valid point, but still... Just my 2 cents. Hope your well! :)

What site do you have?

Joshua G 07-23-2011 12:09 AM

IMO the effect of message board flaming is marginal. Industries like high fashion or hollywood, where insulting one person can get you blacklisted, that can be a fiasco. But the adult community & GFY posters do not come across to me as sensitive. If a player is wealthy & can decline to work with programs over a board slight, so be it. I dont however think our business is so sensitive.

but even at the margins, i would agree there is no upside to negativity, or losing your cool when communicating on the web.

You've been around a while. So you know who a lot of the players are. Do you wonder why you never see them posting here. What they know is that a lot of people read GFY to see who NOT to do business with.

People that have consistently made money since the beginning don't stop doing business with someone because of personality. They do a simple bit of research and never start.

As i've already said. I haven't left a single cent on the table in nearly 14 years. There are mulitple sources for everything.

tony did you see my post about this next months August expenditures for the govt?

In August the U.S. will take in 174 BILLION dollars in revenue. But it will SPEND 303 BILLION dollars!!!!!
And they do that EVERY month.

YES, it IS a spending problem my friend.

And the answers they are coming up with is to cut the budget by 4 trillion dollars over TEN FUCKING YEARS!!!! That's only 400 billion per year! They need to stop spending that 4 trillion NOW.

If you or I are horribly in debt...we don't keep SPENDING more money and going further into debt. Nor do we borrow more money to pay for the money we already borrowed.

No...common sense tells you to STOP spending and start paying your debts. But it's easy for Congress to ignore that...they are spending money they never earned. Money they TAKE from us.

without gov spending my friend there wouldnt of been funding for the creation of the net. So you and I and most of the people in this forum should thanking their lucky stars for gov funding. lol During Eisenhower the road system wouldn't of happened without heavy gov spending. Now we got the lowest tax rates in this country and a road and bridge system falling apart.
Its more like you cant pay your bills but are only willing work a part time job. You and I pay a roughly a third of our income in payroll taxes . Where some hedge fund manager making 4 billion a year pays 15% or google pays 4 percent in business taxes. That doesnt work and of course spending will go up more people, things get more expensive. But while that's all happening you keep collecting less. It doesn't work.
I said it before I want the extreme right to win it all. The middle class needs a real wake up call that the people they talk about arent you. And then maybe things get real shitty we will get a real progressive because the democrats arent progressives they are republican lite. People are foolish when they call them liberals because they are so far from that. Probably the only two real liberals are Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich.

by the way raising the debt ceiling is to pay our current debts not raise spending.

Bingo. This is the root problem with people who spend their careers in "public service". There is no conception of budgeting, just an assumption that money must be spent if there is a need. The mentality is identical to a trust fund child who buys an 80 million dollar home at 22 years old.

no. its more like you cant keep your bills in line with the amount of money your taking in. Your making the tacit assumption that all the spending is like building the highway system. Not when the pentagon spends 100 billion on missile defense that doesnt work & a million other examples of pork.

The tax code has been skewed where the rich pay less % then the middle class. That is the governments fault given it is hopelessly corrupted by lobby money.

But that unfairness is unrelated to the far out of control spending by wealthy entitled congressmen with no conception of constraint.

Joshua G 07-23-2011 01:05 PM

the behavior of both parties are like drug addicts that wont hit bottom. Repubs are absolute that taxes cannot go up, & dems are just as absolute that $100 billion a month more then takin in must be spent.

I support the default. Its necessary that these congressmen wake the fuck up out of their dreamland & recognize both sides cant have it their way. It took a stock market crash to pass the bailout, & it will take another one to get congress to get its house in order.

The irony is that default will make the government budget even worse, with higher interest rates on the debt & more demands for unemployment compensation when business starts another round of layoffs.

Let it fucking crash. Fuck em...

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...4045265660.htm

"For the 400 U.S. taxpayers with the highest adjusted gross income, the effective federal income tax rate?what they actually pay?fell from almost 30 percent in 1995 to just under 17 percent in 2007, according to the IRS. And for the approximately 1.4 million people who make up the top 1 percent of taxpayers, the effective federal income tax rate dropped from 29 percent to 23 percent in 2008. It may seem too fantastic to be true, but the top 400 end up paying a lower rate than the next 1,399,600 or so."

Tony, funding the internet is fine when you aren't in debt.

Eisenhower built the interstate system to be able to move large military vehicles across the country. And as I recall, Pres. Clinton raised the national tax on gasoline back in the 1990's to supposedly fund our highways.

My point is...that the President and Senate and House are STILL SPENDING MORE each year! They aren't even slowing down. Well wait... the GROWTH of spending is what they are fighting about slowing ever so slightly.

This isn't a Dem vs. Repub fight.

It's just this simple: As soon as they raise the debt ceiling they will spend that money.

IF they were to raise all of our taxes they will SPEND that money. They won't use it to actually pay off the debt. Oh no. They will find shit to SPEND it on.

Tony, my opinion is this: They need to STOP SPENDING. And then once it is law that they can NOT spend any more money...then they need to figure out how much extra revenue to bring in and focus all of it on nothing BUT paying the debt off once and for all.

Politicians are going to spend every dollar they get...and then as I just showed you about August coming up (174 in, 303 out) they will borrow twice as much and keep spending.

It's total insanity. And politicians trying to shame me because I need to GIVE them more of my money? Bullshit. They won't STOP SPENDING. It's just crazy.

If you or I tried that it would never work. We'd probably be in prison. Which is where ALL of those scoundrels in Washington D.C. deserve to be.

2003: 50

Basically ANYTHING Obama is for - even when it was previously a GOP idea - gets voted down!

We are experiencing the worst obstructionist politics in our lifetime, and yet there are still dimwits out there, willing to vote Republican in the next election.

IDIOTS!

I love when someone has the excuse, well tommy did it, why can't I? Make them sound like a bitchy llittle 4th grader. It's not about the past, it's about whats the right thing to do now!
Dimwits call excuses, thinkers deal with the present and how it reflects the future, guess where you are placed?

Obama has been blaming the GOP for his bad leadership for 2 1/2 years, how many people are getting tired of his whinning?

Robbie 07-23-2011 03:11 PM

I haven't quoted this since the first page. So let's see what Senator Barrack Obama said when Bush was President and Obama voted "NO" on raising the debt ceiling:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
- Barrck Obama 2006

Robbie 07-23-2011 03:16 PM

I don't know about y'all....but that SENATOR Barrack Obama was a pretty smart guy. That's why I voted for him.

But this new guy? President Barrack Obama?

He's just another politician playing the power game while we all argue like idiots about who is "liberal" and who is "conservative" when none of that matters.

Money is the name of the game. Everything else is just distraction for the masses.
