Isn't there some kind of software to update wordpress - just set it up and then click a button to update a few hundred blogs?

I believe he's asking about updating Wordpress itself to the new version. 3.2 => 3.2.2 or whatever.

the WP MU functions work nicely for that.

Not posts, Wordpress itself. I have ten zillion blogs and if I started to update WP by hand right now I wouldn't be done by the time the next update comes out.

I know there is an automatic update feature, but that doesn't always work correctly, and I want a one click deal where software will log into my server(s) and update them automatically.

For what it is worth, the autoupdate feature is like a billion times better in the newer versions than it used to be. Occasionally, I've been having to hit retry to load the updated page, after an autoupdate, but no failed updates yet. Definite pain though.

I have a Perl script I wrote years ago to update all of my wordpress installations via FTP. It holds all of the login data in a flat file which freaks me out too. Like I said, it uses FTP which is almost obsolete these days but it worked well for updating a bunch of sites quickly. You'll also need the Net::FTP perl module installed. With my script you still need to manually visit each wp-admin to complete the db upgrade. If you're interested I will see if I can find the script. I probably have it on an external drive somewhere.

I pulled the plug on my blogs a couple of years ago and merged them into just a couple of sites. If I had to update that many again I would use something like Git or svn. Check this out: http://deanpcmad.com/post/6532651808...-using-git-and

Or you might want to take a look at managewp.com, free account up until October 2011 and you can manage/update up to 100 blogs via them.
