    Smoking banned in the Philippines

    True fucking story dude. MANILA, Philippines - Starting next week, smokers will be unwelcome in public places along major and secondary roads of the metropolis.

    That fucked up or what? I thought the Philippines was a place for idiots like me to go and blow all my money. This is just uncalled for.

                                              You're not even allowed to smoke in your own car with the new law.
                                              But it's only for public major roads, it doesn't make any sense. You can still smoke in bars and clubs etc.

                                                  What about the jeepny drivers? Not everyone goes to bars and clubs over there man. Everyone who commutes and smokes going to work. That being taken away is a total buzz kill to anyone's morning if your a smoker.

                                                          The kinds of anti-smoking laws I support are the ones that say if the smoke you are producing is in proximity to other people in such a way that they might breath it in then your so-called "rights as a smoker" cease to exist, period.

                                                          Smoking alone in your car should be allowed. Smoking outdoors in an area where there are only other smokers and no one else OR you are far enough away from other people that it's a non-issue then you should be allowed to smoke your brains out.

                                                          But again, the long-term health fallout from smoking IS a huge drain on any society that allows it, so expect harsher and harsher anti-smoking laws in more and more countries as time goes on.

                                                          It's just the way times are changing, and frankly I support it.

If you'e been here you know that the "enforcers" are just looking for bribe money. Thought this is not a law yet, they tried to get bribe from a friend of mine that was smoking in his car but not on one of the areas covered by the law and the law is not even in effect yet.

                                                                                                                                                      The truth of the matter is the Philippines is just like many Spanish-colonized 3rd world countries-a small percentage of the population pimping the rest through fucked up high prices due to monopolies and the government exists to make sure the pimping continues.                                                                                                                                                                   Newsweek Magazine recently released a report entitled "Best and Worst Countries for Women," which ranked 165 countries' treatment of women in terms of rights and quality of life. The Philippines is the only Asian country in the top 20, landing at no. 17 with a score of 86.3 out of 100.
