Oh give me a break, there shouldn't be a monopoly on press or photo/video coverage of any gathering or convention. Having registered and approved press/photographers is a different story.

The issue isn't who and how many people take photos at webmaster events it's that these Nalem guys are taking advertising money from an organization that's main purpose is to profit by hurting our industry.

There was a backlash against those companies that settled with Acicia and this is no different. You get in bed with the wrong people don't cry when you get labeled as a venereal disease.

Creating new threads for each picture that's taken doesn't help Nalem's cause.

Have to agree with Andrea... it's not a bad thing to have ICM in our faces all the time. Why? Because I am THAT sure that the facts are not on their side, and the danger comes from the industry NOT being informed about what it means when you buy and use these domain names.

I've always felt that debating .XXX with ICM is a pretty straight-forward task. They just don't have the advantage of having something that most of us want. And when you take even a calm and calculated look at .XXX domain names, even if you ARE willing to screw over the rest of the industry, using them STILL just makes no sense.

So... even the people who took the "I don't care, I just want to make money, I'll work with those guys, screw everyone else" approach to the tubes.. EVEN those guys, if they take a good look at .XXX, they'll pass too... for their OWN good, even if they could care less about the collective good.

Now if the people from ICM are there making their best arguments and can't respond with a list of benefits that outweigh the likely negatives and liabilities and risks involved when you use these domains... then I can't see what's more convincing than that to get people to not use them.

And the beauty is... anyone who DOES buy these domain names, they're mostly hurting themselves as long as too many people don't start buying them. So the few fools who don't get the message will reap what they sow.

All this said... like I told Alex at the show, I thought it was a really really bad idea for him to take that sponsorship, and I don't think the online community will forget it anytime soon.

It would send a message to anyone else thinking of getting in bed with them, that much is true.

anyway lets see how this goes, although it was not ment to be against Baddog but against Nalem and/or others that will be taking pictures of anybody that visits any Shows in Europe and use it for their own advantage ( paid by .xxx ) I urge anybody to fucking read the laws of the country/countries you are operating in.

And again just publish any photo without permission on the Internet and you could get in trouble as long as you are not aware of local laws.

BTW I think Baddog should not take pictures at all, but that is my personal opinion, same goes for you.

"Portret recht" is very strict with privacy, erotic events are even mentioned.
Though more a Wasteland party as an example that people have privacy and pictures might not be published without written permission. That will qualify for the big friday night party.

But i think it is normal that peoples pictures are taken down when asked and i am sure that most photograpers do that, at least the ones that are allowed to take pictures. No need for court orders and police.

So we need a sign:

Photographing prohibited, except recognized photographers. The photographers will remove your picture from their sites and won't use them in print when asked for it.

baddog has always taken down or not taken photos of anyone that requests it. I think there are many that could say he has been courteous and done so on their requests.

I never seen somebody not putting down pics. I mean, no need for Thumblords to take police action. Sign needed to protect photographers and attendess against eachother. It is getting crazier :)

So what are you going to do if anyone else DOES take pictures at the event? Just curious. Since we are talking about Dutch legislation here I wonder if there is anything you can do at the moment that they are shooting.
