okay, i'm willing to design a site for free. (excluding paysites and tgp designs). im working on bulking up my portfolio with some good shit, and lately i've just been designing templates which serve no use. i'm looking to design something more along the lines of the mainstream'ish / artsy design style. so for example if you run a sponsor, and want a badass / unique site, then i'm willing to do it. or any other site that isn't a paysite basically (that'll cost $).

and to ensure quality, i'm going to guarantee that the design i bust out for free, will be my best. here's my current work:

(so as you can see, it'll take me a bit of time, it wont be some typical blah blah bullshit site.)

the only thing is, is you can't be picky about it. if i design it and for some odd reason you dislike it, i'll offer up the design to someone else.

as for determining the winner, once this thread has been up for 24 hours, i'll go through and collect the "serious" requests and use some sort of process of elimination. OR I'm up for any suggestions you guys have for choosing a winner.

the primary reason i'm doing this is because i need motivation to create somethin really badass. so by making this public, it'll kick me in the ass to get it done.

ahhh, FPA's are quite usually design-style specific, right? i don't have much experience with FPA's. they're basically a watered down version of a paysite, correct? it doesn't really offer too much leeway as far as designing goes. can't really awe-inspire people with an fpa design. i'll do them for money tho, not for free.

nooo, i'm not listing what i WILL design because i'll design EVERYTHING except for the paysite style of designs.. .
I won't do paysite designs, AVS designs, FPAs / HPAs, or TGP designs... the reason for this is because you usually can't awe inspire people with those types of designs. i wanna make a person say wow. and this is a good way to ensure that i'll do just that, to avoid gfy humiliation

i'll do everything else though. which includes shit like sponsor sites, and all mainstream sites.

and a little info about 2advanced.com, eric jordan originally got his fame by practically carbon copying a site designed for a rap artist. it was a big thing on irc when it happened. he was able to promote his shit well and he got recognized and their current site is composed of designers who have a TON of more talent than him.

I need a site from which to distribute a free soccer ezine in the UK and elsewhere. The title is BOOTS. I have an ezine email program to send it out, but want a site as a kind of headquarters.
It would also need a page to host back numbers
I thought of a black background and colored text, but maybe you can think of something better.
The whole thing is based on a series of columns I wrote during the 1886 World Cup in Mexico. These proved very popular and were reprinted in several top newspapers in the US and UK (without royalties, I might add) The column has a satirical style.
Naturally, my material would be up to date.
As a retired journalist who only writes what he wants nowadays, and lives on a small UK state pension, I cannot afford to hire anyoner to do this job. And I don't have the know-how to do it myself.

I got one that you would love and you are probably perfect for. A partner of mine is doing a plan for a location scouting site. Basically it's for hollywood studios to use for finding the best spots in the carribean to shoot films. So, you can probably already see you can run completely free with that nice artsy stuff you do.

This was an idea that was discussed just a couple weeks ago while I was in LA and is being hashed out right now by a couple of studio folks. If you can do something that knocks folks socks off I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have to be free when it comes time to put it in motion.

There's more to it but let me if you are interested in doing a mock up or something.

You do good work, don't worry so much about what gfy thinks about your work or anyone else for that matter except the client with the $$$. Build up your portfolio and start looking for leads, as you can see by the response there is plenty demand for good skills =)

"Some odd reason?" Whether a client is paying you or you're doing it pro bono for the exposure, it's still your client. They have every right to be picky...it's THEIR site you're designing, not yours.

In this business you have to bend over backwards to make the client happy if you want to stay in business. I just redid historykill.com and let me tell you this...I had the site "finished" in about a half day. Then the client wanted another color-scheme...then they picked, tweaked, modified, altered, changed, twisted, rolled, crumpled up, spit out, slept on it and then finally LOVED the very first version I handed them on the first day...with the simple addition of the "download" button in the nav bar. Total time involved - 11 days! Now, it was a simple modification that took me a half hour then wait until the end of the day for approval/changes (allowing me to stay busy on my other projects). But all the while it was, "yes sir," "you bet," "absolutely!" "Whatever you want, you've got it!" etc., etc., etc.

Bottom line...they massively OVERPAID me in the end, had me do their cash site, historykillcash.com (not yet released), another site, a spin-off of historykill called hkpopupkiller.com (not yet released), I am in the middle of their corporate site (I just delivered them a second version last night) and after that I have one more to do for them.

A scenario like that doesn't happen if you have an attitude of "take it or leave it."

Just trying to help, but I am sure you'll do great!

Zayne: of course that is true. however these are different circumstances. sure, if they want wording / a few colors changed, and other minors then thats fine, however if they dont like the whole damn thing that they're getting for free, and if its something i worked on for a long time, then hell no i'm not going to redo it for them, LOL.

One thing..."the only thing is, is you can't be picky about it. if i design it and for some odd reason you dislike it, i'll offer up the design to someone else..." "Some odd reason?" Whether a client is paying you or you're doing it pro bono for the exposure, it's still your client. They have every right to be picky...it's THEIR site you're designing, not yours. In this business you have to bend over backwards to make the client happy if you want to stay in business. I just redid historykill.com and let me tell you this...I had the site "finished" in about a half day. Then the client wanted another color-scheme...then they picked, tweaked, modified, altered, changed, twisted, rolled, crumpled up, spit out, slept on it and then finally LOVED the very first version I handed them on the first day...with the simple addition of the "download" button in the nav bar. Total time involved - 11 days! Now, it was a simple modification that took me a half hour then wait until the end of the day for approval/changes (allowing me to stay busy on my other projects). But all the while it was, "yes sir," "you bet," "absolutely!" "Whatever you want, you've got it!" etc., etc., etc. Bottom line...they massively OVERPAID me in the end, had me do their cash site, historykillcash.com (not yet released), another site, a spin-off of historykill called hkpopupkiller.com (not yet released), I am in the middle of their corporate site (I just delivered them a second version last night) and after that I have one more to do for them. A scenario like that doesn't happen if you have an attitude of "take it or leave it." Just trying to help, but I am sure you'll do great!
