It didnt take long before condom took off and became the place to be. Some of the pissfest there were great. I miss those days sometimes:(

oh well, there's still gold in them hills, just have to dig deeper:glugglug

I remember the 'exodus'. Although I don't seem to recall what sparked it. Wasn't it the fact that Serge and the crew thought YNOT should be for registered users only, and not allow anon posters?

Man, all this talk of the good ol days makes me all misty.

Serge, where are you? Come over from Oprano and relive the days with us.

In 1997... I graduated high school, met my ex, went to college.

I'll admit it, when I first got into being a webmaster I had a (cringe) password site. This was a long time ago, probably 1995-96, I was one of the first sites to bring passwords from irc to the web. I was ignorant, didn't realize I was costing the paysites money. Anyway at first I had no sponsors, but I got a couple hundred bucks a month from snail mail donations. Once I found babylon-x, I started making a killing sending them clicks, with maybe 5 working passwords on my site at a time (they never died back then). One day I had a long conversation with a paysite owner, who unfortunatly is no longer with us. He explained to me the whole "paying for bandwith" situation, since I was hosted on my isp. That day I took down my site, and started redirecting all the freeloaders to a paysite. I'm still ashamed that I ever ran that site, but in a way I was proud for dropping a cash cow like that based on morals.

I started up my first casino shortly after, but found it easier to get traffic to porn sites. I got a couple amazing listings in yahoo for a couple free sites (15 free pics maybe, on 5 pages). Those yahoo listings along with some traffic from FFA link pages made me 5 figures in the first month with a PPS program called banneranswers.com. Unfortunatly, that program was a complete ripoff and I didn't see a dime. After that, I stayed out of the porn side of the business until about 8 months ago. All that time I was building up my casinos, now I own 3 and run the affiliate program for them and 6 others. So now's I'm back selling porn part time, watch out FantasyMan.

I opened up slutwives.com and I think sexteenz.com as well, but the sites were already going before I got smart enough to buy the domain names :)

1997? Hmmm, second year college. Transferred to university and graduated with a bcomm with only 3 years post secondary. (1998 grad)...

I think i spent most of 97 in jail..

oh wait that was 1999-00

hmm.. 97 is a blur.

Rich 01-25-2003 05:57 PM

I didn't mention, when I redirected all the traffic from my password site I sent it to the tour of a paysite I had a password for on my site for a super long time. Back then any traffic was solid gold, I'm sure I made him a couple grand.

Let's see- by 1997 I'd been involved with the Net for 4 years (Usenet newsgroup alt.sex.voyeurism), the Web for 2 (www.iiiii.com) and my on-line video business was 3 years old.

TeraBabes 01-25-2003 06:11 PM

I actually had my first (non-adult) web site up and running in 1995...

Ahhh... the good old days.... when my web editor was Notepad

In 97 I was only 19. It was one year since I graduated high school and I had a reaaaaaaally crappy job telemarketing. I'm getting ill just thinking about it. Back then I didn't even have a computer yet and I was still living at home. It was getting so bad living at home (my mom was treating me like I was 12 and following me everywhere I went) so one day I packed up and went to my boyfriend's house and never came back home. If only I started selling porn back then, I heard some folks where making a small fortune!

Oh hell yeah! I'm doing just fine, other than letting myself get involved in talk shows every once in awhile. (word of advice to readers, DON'T DO IT!)

That messageboard group I got from you is still active, btw, with about 1,500 members involved at this point. Very few of the original group left but it's still the only place serious voys get together.

Glad to hear that about your dad, he's cool!

In '97 I was a radio DJ and a friend told me how easy it was to make a few bucks a day on the internet. I had been online for years with Compuserve, AOL and Prodigy but didn't know shit about websites. I think it was March or April when I put a shitty Adult Check site up on some free host. It was months before I used anyone besides Adult Check. Then my first sponsors were Max Cash, Fresh Teens and of course XPics.

I never was big into the boards back then. I used YNot to find hosting, sponsors, etc. but it was years until I saw the value of reading/posting on any message boards besides Adult Check's.

Trisnic 01-25-2003 07:35 PM

My bf and I started running sites in '97. We had a bunch of stolen adult content on our BBS before that. That made us a grand total of $2! I had just turned 18 at the end of '96.

Anyway we were sitting in a college computer classroom and my bf found a password for Adult Check. Well he used it for awhile and eventually it was cancelled. We didn't have a credit card so we decided to make an adult site, on Tripod with stolen pictures from our BBS, to get a free Adult Check password. For awhile we just tried to win the Adult Check $200 prize by finding exploited AC password and cancelling them on site. Well, that didn't work and eventually we started adveristing our Tripod sites all over Usenet. A couple of posts could get 5 or 6 credits a pop. When one Tripod site would get taken down we'd put 2 up in it's place. Eventually we found a relatively cheap host and when we had a domain we really started getting money. The rest is history.

97......... lets see here... in the summer of that year I got injured while working in the ER of the hospital that I'd worked at for nearly 15 years. That autumn I got off my ass and started taking some computer courses.

'98 -- I got myself a work-experience position at a local ISP, where I caught the first glimpse of a professional webmaster at work. I was there to learn the technical aspects of high-speed internet connectivity and to sell ISDN connections to local businesses. I also helped set up a wireless internet link between two downtown buildings,... Winnipeg's first wireless ISP actually. :D

'99 -- Jan-Feb was when I bought my first new computer and began developing what is now www.cdsmodels.com "CD's Models on the Web", and I've been cranking out new sites and galleries ever since. This is also the year that I took up photography and began recruiting amateur models locally.

It's been..... an adventure, that's for sure.

'97 dead broke and pissed off. Still in school getting excellent grades, all the while smoking weed/hash on weekends. Didn't have internet access until two years later.

In 97/98 I was a Sr. Engineer for MCI and was doing programming for adult webmasters on the side. Continued to work with a few clients doing projects over the years. Helped write some cool scripts that are probably making some people a lot of money today :)

In Nov. 2001 I got laid off as an engineer, and took about 6 months off work, then started programming and working in the adult biz full time in March 2002. Even went to my first Internext this year. I do remember all the pissing on the boards back then, but never really paid attention to who was doing it all until recently :)

Instead of taking over Amps thread, I started a new one.

Gman brings up a good point. How many affiliate programs have 'Since 96, since 97' on them, but they brand new hahahaha

I see many people say they started in 1997.

What did you do in 1997?

I set up Live cams in New Orleans for an early paysite doing a 'Dorm Room' cam hiring girls and paying them to sit on cam as if it was a dorm... the site went bankrupt and i moved to California. It was no loss for me, I was paid up front and kept all the equipment.

I then helped start the first 'Free Internet Cafe' there, installing a t1 for 6 boxes of free use at a coffee shot in an Art Museum, with donations from local companies and art centers, along with the famous 'Bourbocam' on Bourbon Street in New Orleans above the 'Cats Meow' Club... This was from 97 - 98. I hadnt gotten into 'webmasterin' yet, but would eventually.

Where were you?

Lets hear it old timers.

Doing irix sysadmin work for disney fa in burbank. what a fuck job that was.

1997, I started taking naked digital pics of my girlfriend at the time, then another girl I started seeing a new girls and took A LOT of pictures of her.

I was downloading my porn off newsgroups, subscribed to a site or two, and bought my first AVS password through AdultCheck, I believe.

Thought about starting a site, and got intimidated by the logistics--looking back, I should have figured out a way to do it, because it seems that the market was much less crowded then.

But 1997 does sound like like a credible time to get in--anything before then, and the list of people in the web biz was pretty short.

I think I bought my first CD from RWB in 96, may've even been late 95... They are one of the first companies I can think of who were on the web back in the day--did they even have a site back then? Ijust remember ordering the CD-ROM.

in 97 i was working in an experimental department with a very large and well known telecommunications company.
looking back I would probably say that was the best year of my life so far. I met my wife that year....drove cross country to meet her and bring her back to my state....and i was making more money than i ever had previously....life was good back then :)

titmowse 01-26-2003 02:17 AM

in 97 i was teaching computer skills to senior citizens and displaced housewives at a learning facility. i'd been making webpages for over a year and managed to win Geek of the Week for a women's portal site i ran. within the next year, the learning center closed, hotwired ezine closed and i switched to porn.
