Opossum and raccoon. The opossum was greasy and just plain nasty tasting. The raccoon surprisingly was good. Tasted like a sweeter, beef roast.

I once ate a squirrel. Have to boil it before you fry it, because its kind of tough if you dont.

Raccoon
Alligator
Crawfish
Frog legs
Peasant
Quail
Doves... fuck I ate a meadow lark once.
Deer
Elk
Carribou (its great cut up as medallions and cooked with mushrooms and gravy)
Buffalo
Goat (tasty bbq!)
Lamb
Shark
Rabbit
Emu
Antelope
Snails

I'm sure I'm leaving something out. Grew up with hunters, although I dont care for hunting now. And I still love fishing but most of the time I practice catch & release.

Seth Manson 05-31-2011 10:46 AM

I knew I forgot something... Stingray, Abalone, and Conch. Octopus & Squid and a lot of other things that lived in the sea.

sperbonzo 05-31-2011 10:55 AM

Roasted Rat stuffed with breadcrumbs. It was in a market in Cairo in 1980, and I hadn't eaten anything in a couple of days, so it was delicious.... Long story.

Shark steak is great. Deer steak is the best I ever had.
Menudo is the wildest I ever had. But tastes great from the right cook. And it does great for hangovers. --You only eat Menudo on Sunday mornings, after your Saturday hangover.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 05-31-2011 01:14 PM

Virgin Eggs don't sound tasty either lol. Still curious if anyone has eaten that italian cheese thing I posted earlier lol.

Vendors collect virgin boys? urine from elementary schools around the city and use it as a main ingredient for their unusual street food. Plastic barrels are placed outside the classrooms and boys are reminded to pee in them, unless they are sick. The pee is then used to boil eggs, their shell cracked to allow the flavour to slip through, then soaked in urine and boiled again. The whole ?cooking? process takes an entire day. I know it sounds disgusting, but some people say they ?have the taste of Spring?, while others claim ?they?re so delicious that I could eat 10 a day?.

If Virgin Eggs sound like something you?d like to try, you?ll be pleased to know locals are planning to export the delicacy so ?people outside China to fully appreciate the delicacy of our cuisine?, says local chef Lu Ming.

As the spring is setting in, a strange smell begins to permeate in the air in Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province as locals are eating the seasonal "virgin egg."

Virgin eggs are actually eggs cooked in the urine of virgin boys. Most outsiders are appalled at the idea. But virgin eggs are selling well in every street corner of Dongyang. Costing 1.5 yuan each, they are often sold out, Qianjiang Evening News reported.

These two weeks, schoolboys in Dongyang City need to pee into plastic barrels placed outside their classrooms, which are collected by nearby residents. Local teachers accepted the practice and even reminded the boys not to pee into the barrels if they are sick.

According to the egg sellers, cooking virgin eggs is just like cooking tea eggs with right heat and time.

"It's so delicious that I can eat 10 eggs a day," said a woman surnamed Liu, who moved to Dongyang several years ago and developed a taste for virgin egg. "I had never eaten it before I came here, but I got addicted to it now."

However, not all Dongyang people are interested in it. One local resident surnamed Li said he never tasted it. "I can't stand the smell. It's awful."

In eyes of many Dongyang people, virgin egg is a perfect tonic for spring. Egg sellers will tell you that it helps to prevent springtime drowsiness and heatstroke in the summer.

However, doctors' opinions vary a lot. Wu Yunhua, a director at the Dongyang Central Hospital told the newspaper that urine contains a kind of crystal that can "diminish the internal heat of human body" and stop bleeding.

But Huang Jian, a physician and the director of Jinhua Central Hospital, contested that there's nothing good for health in the urine. "After all, it is a waste from the body."

Hmm.. never been too adventurous in eating, but if it's in public I could try some new things. I used to really go for the chicken and turkey hearts, but thats pretty normal. I've had roasted grasshopper. Guess what? It's crunchy. Sorry to stretch your imagination so far. :winkwink:

Vendot 05-31-2011 02:15 PM

Go to any food street in China and youll find all of those things. One of the most popular is spider or scorpion on a stick..... i never tried it.

Lilit 05-31-2011 03:38 PM

It was last year in Amsterdam. We had a dinner in Okura hotel's restaurant if I'm not mistaken. Japanese stuff. They brought some appetizers and there was something in small teabowls, I didn't know what it was. I was so tired and hungry that I ate it all even without asking what I was eating. Oh well... It tasted like fish, but by the look of the people at the table who saw that I ate that I guess it was something really weird :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Bottom line - I still don't know what it was LOL
