yeah, i saw that and agree and have a question- so that all means the ipad2 can't play flash? a tablet can't play flash? i thought that was what a tablet was for- playing movies, music, pics and shit??

From what I understand, the ipad and ipad2 cannot play Flash but android and blackberry can but I am no expert and have none of them.

i'd love to figure out a way to justify a tablet in the lineup but i just don't see it. obviously it would slot in in-between the laptop and a smartphone, but it's a trade off of both of those imo. and no flash, lolz, dang, i can't wait to tease my sister about hers!

you drag and drop the fla files into wallaby and it converts it into html 5 that you can upload on your server and use for apple products etc via a sniffer or you could replace the flash entirely with that as well i suppose. I havent used it much, its fairly new and in a beta phase.

can they really charge for that though since apple has these restrictions? not really the designerdevs fault adobe cant come out with a solution other than an app. I would think that since its a small air app itll just stay free but who knows.

I'm hoping that now since other tablets are being marketed as allowing flash content, that maybe Apple will finaly allow it on the iPad as well. Pisses me off when I check my server stats and I cant see my graphs because they are in flash, but I can see them just fine on my google tv.

Tablets are pretty much usless unless you need one for business, travel a bit, or keep one next to the sofa, bed or as the poster above noted, the shitter.
Personally, I don't know why anyone would want to buy an iPad when there are far [better, cheaper, faster] Android tablets on the market like the Samsung Tabs which play Flash (albeit not perfectly, yet). I mean a tablet's main function is surfing the Web and a lot of the Web is unavailable to iPads. Sure sites are migrating towards HTML5, a format iPhones & IPads can play; but that transition is going to take a while and those little question mark filled blue boxes are going to trouble iOS users for quite a bit longer. ![]() I have an iPad ... and sure it may have THOUSANDS of apps available, that number is bloated with tons of "press the screen and it makes a fart sound" type apps ... ![]() Blackberry Apps are for business-minded people looking for stuff to increase their productivity. Also, BlackBerry Playbook will run droid apps too! http://www.hotblackberrynews.com/201...-android-apps/ While it may be true that 'nobody' has heard of QNX ... it is the toast of the town and everybody wants it!! QNX is the first OS to be built from the ground up - specifically to run on ARM processors, and it is nothing short of AMAZING!! ![]() ![]() PlayBook may have been released a bit prematurely to be able to come to market the same day as Motorola's XOOM tablet, but with each update PlayBook is getting better and better ... It seems RIM is packing as much into each update as Apple is in 6 updates. |

The problem isn't on adobe's end. It's apple who refuses to let flash work on ipads, iphones, etc because flash applications would be competition for its app store.

Apple is the one company in the world who is not afraid of their competition. The reason why Apple does not allow iOS to run flash, is because Steve Jobs wants to force websites to become HTML5 compliant. HTML5 can do everything flash does, is much more efficient than flash, and is much more secure than flash, which is very easy to embed rogue code into ... Flash is not going to go away, if people keep supporting it! While it does make surfing on an iPad a bit tricky sometimes, I fully commend Steve Jobs for his efforts in getting the world to adopt HTML5 |

http://blogs.computerworld.com/16031...words_heats_up Sure, you could argue that steve jobs is some magic superhero that wants to rid the world of the evil that is flash, but the if you look at some of the other recent events you'll see that apple is doing everything to grab money possible. There was even somethign recently about ebooks no longer being sold outside the appstore because apple saw they weren't cashing in on that. The fact stands, the reason flash doesn't run on iphone/ipad in my opinion, is so people are forced to pay for games/etc on the appstore instead of going to addictinggames.com and playing for free. Sure, flash can't do alot of stuff that apps can, but theres alot of apps in the app store that can easily be replaced with free flash stuff, and on top of that all the flash stuff would be cross-device compatible. You could play 1 single flash application on a pc, mac, android, blackberry, and ios device. However, I think the biggest arguement that the most popular pc browsers didn't really support html5 (specifically, canvas) until what, 2009? 2010? I can't find any specific dates, but the earliest I heard of html5 video players and such popping up is not really all that long ago. They might have been around, I dont know, but they definately weren't very popular. The first iphone was unveiled Jan 9th, 2007. I'm not even sure the first iphone supported html5 in its browser. Assuming it did, his plan was to make a device that supported something almost completely unused at that time, and not support flash which is all over the place? If he really wanted to get rid of flash, Mac OSX wouldn't support it either.

I don't have flash installed on my pc. I realized after owning an ipad that very few sites I visit use flash outside of advertisements and sometimes videos.
Flash is slow, it's bulky, it's why your browser crashes so much, it's why tablet batteries burn so fast, it's a dud of a technology that is going to be replaced with html5.

It's $700-$1500 for the software to create flash... either way we're screwed.

The flash plugin on your pc is costing you energy, extra processing power/ram is used, costing you life on the hardware, and the time lost every time your browser crashes which more often than people realize is due to flash.
If you want to be neutral in the war, remove flash from your pc and discover how much better the internet experience actually is when it's faster and almost no browser crashes happen.
