:stoned Lesser known 80's songs that kicked ass

post vids of 80's songs that got air play but weren't huge hits, maybe some personal favorites you have of tunes you thought should have been way bigger than they were.

here's a few to kick it off-
oingo boingo - nothing to fear

wall of voodoo - ring of fire (cover of johnny cash song, not sure why they used a butthole surfers album cover for the image)

The Fixx - Red Skies At Night (original version)

Surf Punks - My Beach

The Dickies - Nights in White Satin (cover of the moody blues song)

Replicas was Numan's masterpiece imo, better than Pleasure Principle which was much bigger because of Cars obviously.
He does a great version of Down In The Park on Urgh A Music War.

Great call on the Dead Milkmen.
I don't necessarily consider this to be 'lesser known', per se, but it's not as well known as some other 80s stuff.

I saw them and 10,000 maniacs in a small club in Atlanta Ga in 82... good times... The club was the 688 club... at 688 spring street... Hence the name..Now it is where the braves play baseball..

80s music never gets old. I wonder how dated we sound to younger people. I really don't care, but I'm just a little slightly curious to know if it's anything like how it was for me and a lot of others in their early-to-mid 30s when we heard our parents listening to the Oldies But Goodies radio stations.

Anyway, I think these next three are from 90s, but I really like the girls in each of the videos.
Edit: and I don't mean the fat chick that is somehow the highlighted image on the Wild Nights video.

btw, for those that play guitar: I remember in the 70s the first thing you wanted to play with your electric guitar (even if you didn't have one) was the "Cocaine" or "Smoke on the Water" riffs. Wasn't "A forest" one of the most "go to" riffs in the mid eighties? I remember every time you went to a music someone was testing a guitar playing "A forest", "Money for Nothing" and/or some metal tune, usually Quiet Riot or Judas Priest. In the 90s people tested guitars (and multi-effects) trying to emulate My Bloody Valentine, and some Nirvana or Smashing Pumpkins.

Am I right or these were the popular choices only in my country? Anyway, what were your tunes to test a guitar, or the ones you listened the most at a music shop?

But Harvey, you lived it! Imo the greatest period in rock started in 75 and lasted till about 84.
1975 more or less ushered in the beginning of alternative music, which for me was the best era. The range of sounds and sentiments went far beyond the 60s and early 70s and became something which was very hard to label and market. Of course they tried but the fashion didnt last, only the music.

I remember vividly in 1978 when Devo came on SNL and completely went ape shit, writhing on the ground and ripping their clothes off to Jocko Homo and I thought, "That is how i feel, holy fuck there are mutants out there!" I would not trade that era for anything...

of course, you're right, but maybe because I still listen to that music, I feel like it wasn't that long ago, then see 30 years have passed and... damn!

Anyway, you're so right about how good music was that my daughter and her friends listen to the same music and they are always "you saw this and that LIVE? you played with xx? wow!"

btw, something I've shown my daughter last week: URGH! A Music War . I have it in VHS so I had to get a VHS player (even that is OLD! ), but it still rocks, the bands were always trying to push the boundaries, many times they did crap, but they all wanted to be different and original, even if it was ridiculous or they looked like clowns, they tried originality at all costs. Just like today!

URGH is one of the best music movies i've ever seen, maybe the best.

Sadly because of legal issues URGH has not been officially released on DVD (to my knowledge) so a while back i had to settle for an old vhs copy i got off ebay.

10 year old punk rockers...

Pantera pre-Phil Anselmo, when they were a glam band and Dimebag Darrell was Diamond Darrell (one of my bands even used to cover this song, but Pantera was so little known, we'd occasionally claim it was original to impress whores, haha)
