People should have to pass a test before becoming parents.

Here this father of the year was mowing the yard with his 2 year old daughter and 7 year old son on board. Anyone want to guess what happens next .........

One of my neighbours does that to. Rides around the lawn with his tiny kids on his lap. Even if you aren't worried about them possibly falling off and getting mangled, he could at least put some ear protection on them. His yard is not small and that amount of decibels for 2 hours at a time each week will probably do permanent hearing damage to a child that young.

How long does it take to mow the yard ? Few mins at most ?

So surely, considering there is a danger, you make sure the kids are out of harms way.

Reading the comments on that page, most people seem to think otherwise, and are saying it's just an unfortunate accident. Try telling that to the little kid.

Parent is a fucking idiot if you ask me...

" died from multiple blunt-force and sharp-force trauma" What a nice way of saying what really happened.

Then the author goes on to describe how unsafe the mowers are. Bullshit I owned and used a top of the line Toro for years when I lived in the country. They are VERY stable if you know anything about tractors in general.

Also since the motor is in the rear the only place for the kids would be in front where the operators feet go. She fell forward, he ran her over and should be charged with negligent homicide.

That's like saying kitchen knife's are unsafe.

You wouldn't let your kid play around with a knife, so why let the kids play around when a mower with high speed blades is in operation.

Some people always just like to pass the blame on to anyone but themselves...

Accidents happen, even terrible life ending ones. Who doesn't know someone killed in an accident? Very few I'd think.

In other parenting lawn mower related news...

May 24:

Quote:
LIMA, Ohio ? A 4-year-old-girl in Ohio is recovering after her dad accidentally backed over her with a riding lawn mower.

Authorities in Lima (LY'-muh) say the girl suffered severe injuries to her legs and is in fair condition at a Columbus hospital.

Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish says the father was mowing Sunday when he backed up near a tree and the mower shut down. He then noticed his daughter underneath the mower.

The sheriff tells The Lima News the man then lifted the mower off his daughter.

He says the girl had been playing outside and ended up behind the mower without her father knowing.

SOLON TOWNSHIP, MI -- A 5-year-old girl struck by a riding lawnmower tonight suffered severe injuries and died at the scene, Kent County Sheriff's investigators said.

The girl, whose name was not released, was believed to be playing in her yard at 17977 Marsh Creek Ave .NW when one of her parents accidentally struck her with the mower, police said.

"It's a very tragic and horrible accident," said Lt. Jeff McAlary of the 7 p.m. incident.
The home is off a private drive in a rural area near U.S. 131 and 22 Mile Road, the Sand Lake exit.

Police did not know if the girl was laying or crouching down in the grass at the time she was struck. The mower was described as a medium-sized riding lawnmower.

The parents were too distraught initially to give investigators specific details, McAlary said.

AeroMed, a medical helicopter, initially was put on standby for the accident, then was told it was not needed.

A chaplain was called to the scene.

The couple's 3-year-old child is being cared for by a neighbor.

May 18:

Quote:
The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that about 10,000 children require care in the emergency room each year because of lawn mower accidents, including about 2,500 kids who are under five years of age.

In starting to follow these types of accidents, I am also surprised at just how often these lawn mower accidents cause serious injuries, including lost legs and severe lacerations, and how often they are fatal.

In addition to a 10-year-old boy who was killed while mowing a lawn last week in Georgia, there is a new report today of a five-year-old who died in Michigan after getting run over by a riding lawn mower. The child was playing in the grass and was run over by one of her parents who couldn't see her as they were mowing the lawn.

These tragic highlight the importance of raising awareness of lawn mower safety, including that:

children not operate a walk-behind power mower or hand mower until they are at least 12 years of age or a ride-on mower until at least 16 years of age

young children must not be allowed to play in or be adjacent to areas where lawn mowers are being used

children younger than 6 years should be kept indoors during mowing

Most importantly, don't let your child ride on your lap while you are mowing the lawn.

Lawn mower accidents are an all too common tragedy, especially this time of year. With an increased awareness of the dangers that can lead to these accidents, parents can hopefully take steps so that they are less likely to happen to their kids.

At age 7, we were out mowing the lawn on the rider ourselves. By 12 I had a summer business.

Accidents happen, and they usually fucking suck. This guy has to live with it for the rest of his life and that will be punishment enough. It's not like he set out to kill his own child.

It's not only parents.

9am this morning I was at the bank. I pulled into the parking lot and I had the right of way. There was a car in front of me, and a car behind me. A car to my right came to a stop, and thought that it was a four way stop so just decided to plow through the intersection - even though we had the right of way and it resulted in cutting off the car in front of me.

Chances are he had no idea who had the right of way. And if you can't figure out who has the right of way, you shouldn't be driving.

Or be be a parent.

I lock all the doors if I'm mowing the law, I don't even want the possibility of my daughter stepping in the garden
