How do you feel about traffic leaks? Are they a form of shaving?

http://www.partyallstar.com/join.php

Notice that the site has links to the other sites in the network and you don't get paid for them. No linking codes of any kind and putting them there would take a programmer about 30 minutes across all sites in the network.

http://www.baileyknox.com/join.html

All of them do this... Is this a form of shaving? Perhaps you send the traffic via Misty Gates and the surfer sees Bailey Knox and buys through her un-paying link. Now you just lost a sale that most other programs would have credited you.

I am seeing this tactic more and more. We aren't talking about 2nd tier processors here. We are talking about a shitload of traffic moving around without your code following it.

I rarely promote a site if it has third party links right on the tour or join page, which don't credit the affiliate. They could easily offer those sites in a mailer after the member joins or as an upgrade in the members area. Even an exit popup would be better.

All of those linked sites are run by the same program, so the ccbill cookie set when you sent the surfer to partyallstar.com should be set for all of those sites.

Im astounded by the amount of affiliates who dont check out members areas or tours for leaks. The typical webmaster doesn't do nearly as much homework as they should.

Almost every solo girl website i researched before we launched had leaks. If I was an affiliate, I wouldn't be pleased with this, especially considering most solo girl programs offer a revshare program only and rebills are greatly effected by members area traffic leaks.

Edit-- Traffic leaks is not shaving though.

I think that's only true if all the sites use the exact same account/subaccount

I think your right. Traffic holes are just that - traffic holes. Shaving is when you get ten sales, but you only get paid for less than them.

This current flap about not paying on the second processor isn't shaving. Stupid, but not shaving.

Those are ccbill programs so as long as the base link is the same, then you should still get credit as ccbill tracks that.

No, it's not something a programmer can do as the affiliate code is "lost" at ccbill unless the sites are setup for you to send traffic to them and not the ccbill link...

eg: http://www.baileyknox.com/aff.php?id=1234567

Then you could "save" the affiliate id, do a redirect thru the standard ccbill link, then use the saved aff id on subsequent pages etc. But of course that opens things up for the program to easily shave sales. Of course any program that wanted to shave ccbill affiliates could do it other ways as well so not like it would matter.

Dude, turn in your webmaster license. You are so so wrong it's not even funny.

The surfers cookie is already set when they hit that tour from the affiliates link code.

You owe that program a BIG apology!

Uh, without BV's help, I went in and did as someone else suggested. I went to a site I had never ever been to in my life and guess what? My affiliate code was there even though I didn't click to get to it through any of their links in the past.

So to Epic Panda, your program seems to pass the code.

Sorry for the confusion with YOUR program.

I used it because it followed a signature that is blatant in other programs with this problem. Again, sorry I didn't check the other site first and then choose a different program that uses subaccounts.

As for your strong wording BV... Jesus Christ, man! Chill the fuck out!

* It should be noted that this means Epic Panda Cash actually ANTI-shaves by giving you credit for each of the sites even if you only promoted Bailey Knox.

Dude...there is NO SUCH THING as a "Members Area Leak".

The members area is none of our concern as affiliates. We have already done our job and that surfer is now the paysites MEMBER. We don't deserve a damn thing that is an upsell in the members area.

We are just affiliates...not God.

As for the original post on this...Is that the same for the affiliate tour?

I do as I please on Claudia-Marie.Com's type in tour. As I should. It's MINE, and an affiliate isn't sending traffic to that tour. But the affiliate tour itself is clean.

Most paysites that are smart do the same thing.

So don't make a decision based on what you see on a non-affiliate tour.

EDIT: Just went and read the rest of the thread and looked at that sites webmaster link. They are CC Bill so all those other sites are cookied in with your CC Bill id.

As if we constantly check each pay site link multiple times per day since
the leak can be put there randomly by even the dumbest programmer.

While technically not shaving, traffic leaks (including those "follow us on twitter" links that seem to be getting popular) are definitely a reason to stop sending traffic or reduce the amount of traffic being sent. Most of the time they are a sign of 1. something shady going on or 2. a site owner who doesn't know what he is doing (I still can't believe how many site owners don't know they can create a separate tour for their affiliate traffic).

Sorry man, this place has me on edge most of the time lately.

I just wanted to nip it in the bud and make sure I got my point across to anyone else that was reading this that might not understand how things work with CCBill.

You know how things can get blown out of proportion around here. (whether they be true or false)

Thanks for the kind words.

I could not disagree with you more on a revshare program.

Some people think upsells in the members area don't affect rebills and some do.

Let me ask you a couple questions:
1. If you gave your affiliates a choice on whether they wanted upsells or not in your members area, which do you think they would choose?

2. On traffic you send to other paysites on revshare, if you had a choice, would you rather send to a site with upsells or no upsells?

To be clear you will not get any credit for any upsells either. (like most)

Answer honestly.

The ONLY thing that matters is $/unique

All the rest is meaningless.

If sponsor A shaves 80% of your sales and redirects 40% of your traffic but pays an average of 75 cents per click
And sponsor B never shaves and credits every single unique but pays an average of 5 cents per click....

When you send 1000 clicks to each, you still make 15x as much money with A than you'd make with B

Affiliate marketing is an auction where sponsors compete for your traffic. All the rest is an emotional distraction from a simple business decision.

*The above assumes they aren't card banging, doing anything illegal or in some way harming your bookmakers etc...
