I heard that meth addicts in jail will find other arrested meth addicts and buy their scabs and eat them because they may contain trace amounts of meth.

Also saw on a documentary that some addicts have walked along the interstate and highways to find bottles of piss that are thrown out by truckers because they believe truckers use meth and by drinking the piss they'll get high or something.

technically you ingest things every day that are made with pretty much the same things, acids, bases, basically.

many foods are acidified and basified in the process of manufacture. soaps and detergents, all pharmaceuticals, cloth, building materials, the materials in your car.

you are absorbing far more dangerous chemicals, far more dangerous molecules, than acids and bases on a regular basis. acids and bases are comparitively safe, as chemicals go. yes, they can burn and damage cells in concentration, but other than that they typically are not poisons

and the acids and bases used to make meth aren't typically left in the final product, altho they can be.

you probably don't know it, but you are just repeating a scare argument used by the government to justify the growth of government and the prison industry.

under the trade name desoxyn, meth is an ingrediant in several adhd medications and prescription diet medicine.

in and of itself, meth is just a chemical. the anti meth laws, which keep people from getting treatment for it, and make it profitable to manufacture and sell, are largely what causes the trouble.

your faces of meth photos are cherrypicked ad campaign content and are also essentially meaningless - a classic "before and after" advertising trick.

I haven't researched the provenance of those photos, so don't have any opinion on them other than the observation that before and after photos are usually meaningless. any person can have a pair of photos taken, one that makes them look nice, one that makes them look like shit.

"meth mouth" is a real phenomenon, but would occur far less often if people were able to get treatment and counseling and health advice. The same effect happens with many chemicals and medications - dry mouth allows bacteria to grow.

the same type of argument - that prohibition causes far more harm than the chemical itself - applies to all drugs.

the before im thinking is their first arrest for having drugs and pipes. the after is just them being caught once again and it appears that they have been smoking their share of meth.

advertisers always want you to believe that the before and after represent the benefits or costs of the thing the advertiser is trying to sell you. if you trust government advertisers more than any other "before/after" advertiser, thats your decision to make.

if those photos keep you from taking meth, that's a good thing, I suppose. I personally stopped trusting government advertising long ago.

however, your beliefs and fears will have little to no effect on the criminal marketplace for meth created by prohibition. the faces of meth campaign doesn't seem to have decreased demand.

your fears and government advertising help keep the prison industry going tho, so if you are a big fan of building more prisons and increasing the role of prison in government, there's that.

Sorry, but meth, when it is abused, is one of the worst drugs out there. To attempt to shrug that campaign off as a scare tactic is frivolous.

Yes, they used the most extreme images, but anyone who has seen a meth head deteriorate in real life knows that those pics are not too far off the mark. When claims are made that meth "rots a person's soul", it is not a far fetched assertion or an exaggeration. The first use in that form hooks the majority of users completely.

Controlled substances that grow naturally do get my support, but it's the significantly processed unregulated drugs that do real damage to the human body.
