Earthlinks Pop Up Killer Commercials

Noticing more and more ISps are advertising 'NO MORE POP UPS' and Pop Up Killers in their commercials.

Last night I saw an Earthlink commercial where they made it like a video game. The guy was clicking and closing pop ups like it was a shoot em up game. The commercial ONLY focused on killing pop ups, and 6 months at half price.

Wonder what will happen to pops in the next few years.

Soon all major ISPs will have it. It isnt bad with just a popunder or two, but the webmasters using small windows way down in the corner of the screen activating more windows with popups of their own on a time triggered bases ruined it for popup marketing.

When a new version of the IE browser comes equipped with it, I expect that to be the final nail

I was just thinking about the sponsors who depend on them so much, and wondering if this will have an effect on them.

And what 'new' things are going to come out get around it when it becomes much more popular and the pop up killers are enhanced etc...

Personally I'd rather have happy surfers than sqweeze and extra couple cents out of them with exits. Soon all ISPs will eliminate popups, everyone's just going to have to learn how to make money without them.

So far its only the ISP's I think who are on-board for a no popup experiene. They are trying to get eyeballs to use their service and want to offer a value-added service (removing the annoyance of popups). But I doubt popups will go away until a new version of IE which has the option and its set to disable popups by default. That move will kill a majority of popups as we know it but even Microsoft/MSN uses popups to increase their bottom line so I think it's rather isolated to just the service providers, for now...

What about mainstream sites that depend on popup programs to stay around? I'm sure they've got alot of negative things to say about earthlink.
