Hi scooter bums

I'm looking at getting me another scooter after being off one for about 15 years or so.
I'm not sure what model I want. I want to get something I can take across country on trips.
I know I don't want to get a Harley Sportser because I would just burn it up.
There seems to be some good prices on the used Harleys.

So what would you real scooter bums suggest?

These are used low milage scooters ranging 1999 to 2003
FatBoy
Electra Glide Standard FLHT
Electra Glide Ultra Classic FLHTCUI
Dyna LowRider FXDL DETAILS
Electra Glide Ultra Classic FLHTCUI

Used Harley's

I've also been playing with the idea to get a new one like one of these.
Road King FLHR at 21K
or
FatBoy
or a
V-Rod VRSCA at 17k
All are nice!

So what would you suggest? Any comments? Remember it will every now and then go on long trips.
Mostly in Texas but some cross country also.

If you're going to be going cross-country then go for something like an Electra-Glide Classic. The widened base under the windshield will keep you from getting beat up on long trips, plus it has the touring boxes to keep extra stuff. Super comfortable... and lemme tell you it *does* glide. Keep your eye on the speedometer or you'll be getting pulled over for doing 80 without realizing it. Power off the line will toss your ass right off if you're not holding on; just because it's a big touring bike doesn't mean it can't hold its own off of the line.
Heavy as all fuck though, if you dump this one in the gravel you will NOT get it upright by yourself. When it *is* upright, you don't even notice the weight. She's balanced so well my 90lb mom can handle her. (She refuses to drive it, however.)

Check the new ones and talk to the dealership, most likely they can get you a better deal on a new one than what people are wanting for one that's a year or two old. (At least, that's the case when the one above was purchased.)

I have an '86 FLST Heritage Softail with 150,000 miles on it, and the leather bags for that model are perfect for journeys of 3 weeks and more. I have taken mine everywhere, obviously.

I am not into the dressers with the radios and fiberglass bags, but they do give you plenty of storage, especially the middle trunk behind the seat

The Jesse bikes are a work of art I might hang one on a wall but ride that farm tractor on street no way!

Yeah maybe. But you just got to love a Harley non the less.
I kind of grew up in my teens and later years around Harley's and one of the bigger club in the Houston area.

My wife's brother was a life long member until he was laid to rest about 15 years ago.
I really think that's where I got my love of Harley scooter's from.
Watching them ride up and shooting the shit with them. Alway's friendly to me.
Watching them talk about who's was faster, watching them prove it by lining up there FatBoy's on the road and letting them rip.
The feeling of complete freedom. There is no other bike that can match that.

If I can fine a pic of his scooter I'll post.

Man I can't stand riding them I have owned over a 100 motorcycles, and a bunch were hogs, but I brought them home in the van, and sold them for lots of cash to a bunch of yuppies.

Man what a joke I got 1 mile out and said no way you have to be kidding right? This is what I waited for all the hype about Harleys, I will never forget that day.

I have had the 1340 Evos all that stuff I love the look of them but man they just suck to ride, no brakes, no power, no handling at all, but when you pull up to a light and a toothless redneck gives you the thumbs up it makes up for what a piece of shit you have.

Hey if you are into the leather vest and a wallet with a chain more power to you, I just never followed the crowd on this one.

The new ones are trouble-free - ride a mile push a mile doesn't apply anymore. Plus no need for oil paper in the garage.

Just to be fair though, we had a Yamaha Virago 1100cc that kicked ass. Rode nearly as nice as the Harley, the power was a bit more "raw" - scary at times. (And I grew up on a bike strapped to my Dad with a belt and falling asleep on the gas tank.)

Test drive 'em first, if the Harleys disappoint you for any reason (doubtful) then give the Viragos a look.

For something to travel with I'd go for an Electra Glide or a road king for comfort and you will have plenty of room to carry anything you need to bring with you. They FXDWG is a little more sporty That's what I'm getting next.

I wouldn't worry to much about the reliability Harley breaking down a lot is a bunch of B.S. , maybe in the 70's when amf was building them. I have been driving a 89 softail for 5 years and put 90k hard miles on her. She never left me stranded.

I would not go with one of the Jessie bikes for cross county trips That would be like going cross conty in a viper or a vet.

And Evo has plenty of power if you do a little work to it.

I agree with SuperVillain. Go with a Glide or a Road King if you are looking to make trips. While I like my Low Rider, I can't imaging going across country on it, without stopping every hour for a beer (which of course, means you never make it to your destination

If you are talking about rideing across country the V-ROD will suck!!
They are fun but they ride like a crotch rocket for long rides!
I have a 76 shovel head custom and it has been lowered and has fat boy looks and it is very comfy... but even for long rides it is rough.... SO I would say road king or fat boy!!
