Indoor cat owners

Anyone else have indoor cats that go on long crying jags this time of year? One of my cats is about to drive me nuts - he actually made himself hoarse the other evening.

I would take him for a walk on a leash since he wants to go out so badly, but from prior experience once he gets a taste of the outdoors he'll try making a break for it, often succeeding, for the next week or so.

He's a boy and long since "fixed" so that definitely is not the cause.

I suspect it's the time of year, and he's getting riled up by the new scents and sounds coming from outside.

Look up Feliway. It's expensive but you should only need it for a month or two.

I own two indoor cats.

Just like most other females, I get a 'week of joy' every month. They whine, follow me around from room to room, climb on my keyboard, lay on my arm while I work, paw at my face whatever. I guess it's kittie time of the month.

It's happened at least 1 week every month with both of them for as long as I've owned them. It starts with the Siamese one week, followed by the other the next week. The other 3 weeks of the month they go back to normal. Not whining all the time, following me around, and so on.

When he gets outside, he goes nuts. He has to run up and smell EVERYTHING and isn't too keen on coming back inside. The leash is just a means of giving him some degree of freedom while still being able to keep him out of trouble and to come back inside when it's time.

I feel kinda bad since I have an indoor/outdoor cat that comes and goes as she pleases, but she is more level-headed. She stays in the yard and comes when I call her.

Walking a cat on leash is stupid. Seriously, it's not a dog. I have 2 indoor cats but they go out whenever they want.

My male cat (17 years old, fixed for 16) has been doing that as well lately in the middle of the night. Usually we get him to get into bed with us and he calms down after a few minutes.

I used to think that, untill 2 arseholes killed my cat a few years ago.

Now we have a house cat. Luckily, she's so timid she doesn't even try to get outside anyway, so it's not a problem.

I think it's near impossible to keep male cats indoors though...

I think a true indoor cat reacts in utter fear when you try to get them to come outside. Heard this from more than one person with indoor cats. You can hardly get them to go out into the big bad unknown world.

I have two indoor cats. They must stay inside since I live in San Diego on a canyon, and the local coyotees will get them if they go outside.

He did however get outside once, when the backdoor was accidentally left wide open for an hour. I found him in the backyard, gingerly walking across the grass, "inspecting" it very closely - as he had never seen grass. I felt really bad, since cats should have the ability to explore and have adventures - but the coyotees pretty much put a stop to that.

My male cat does the meeeooow thing almost every night.

I have 2 indoor cats, one is mine other is my gf's. My cat loves to sit on the window sill and look outside for hours. If someone leaves the door open, she loves to try and run out, but Ive never let her out.

Maybe your cat just wants to go outside, but if you've let him/her out before they are probably expecting it

My indoor cat made a break for it over the weekend. Thought we lost him - after alot of searching I found under a house - mind you in California there are no "Basements" - this was a 10" crawl space. Took some coaxing but got him out. Yeah it's been acting a bit wierd this time of year.....

Well, with our Siamese, that is the case. She is, by nature, already a very overcautious cat. I have owned at least a half dozen Siamese/cats and this one is by far the least social and trusting. She will meow to go outside, but you almost have to kick her out the back door to get out. She will be out there for 2-5 minutes and want to come back in.

The tiger on the other hand, she will make a mad dash out the back door any opportunity. She will explore the whole back yard for an hour if you let her. However, if you are not standing right there, she will want to come back in and climb on the screen door meowing until you let her back in.

Ultimately, they both will not go too far. But the back yard is fenced. So some bunnies and squirrels to keep them company and the dogs on all sides away from them. But with the summer and screens in. They will sit in front of the screen window or door 90% of the day looking out and smelling the smells.

BF are your cats female and fixed? They shouldn't go into heat anymore and meow like that if they are. My indoor cat which I have had since she was a small kitten of ten weeks old likes being inside with me. The one time I took her outside to go in the car to the vet she was absolutely terrified.

Both are female, and supposedly fixed when I got them as kittens from the Animal Rescue. I agree with you, they should not be going into heat. However, every month like clockwork since being a kitten they do it. It is always one week a month, first the Siamese, then the tiger. Weeks 2 and 3 in a month. Then GF on the 4th. So I get a whole ONE WEEK of relief.

When I've taken them to the vet, I get the same terror. But when it comes to going outside, the tiger will make a mad dash. But she's easy to catch. The Siamese is not. Even in the house. So I worry about her going outside. That said, luckily, she never leaves the back deck, and really only stays out there for 5-10 minutes if that. Then she wants back in.

Neither will stay out there long if I am not standing right there.

My HOA does not allow pets to roam freely on the property - must be leashed. I mean I understand dogs but they include cats as well which I could not beleive, is this common? I used to let him out at night when no one would see him and he would usually come back in 1-3 hours.

People! People! It's time to put all annoying/mean/pissing on your shit cats in a trash-bag and hook it up to your tailpipe for a few minutes. Best thing you'll ever do for yourself. Best to put the mean ones in a cat carrier then into the bag.

Wankers that kill animals & like to take crap out on animals. Nasty stuff man

At the same time, dont like cats leaving crap on my lawn, but no reason to hurt any animal. Good for you to have such a loving cat indoors, hoping she brings you lots of happiness man
