Well, with our Siamese, that is the case. She is, by nature, already a very overcautious cat. I have owned at least a half dozen Siamese/cats and this one is by far the least social and trusting. She will meow to go outside, but you almost have to kick her out the back door to get out. She will be out there for 2-5 minutes and want to come back in.
The tiger on the other hand, she will make a mad dash out the back door any opportunity. She will explore the whole back yard for an hour if you let her. However, if you are not standing right there, she will want to come back in and climb on the screen door meowing until you let her back in.
Ultimately, they both will not go too far. But the back yard is fenced. So some bunnies and squirrels to keep them company and the dogs on all sides away from them. But with the summer and screens in. They will sit in front of the screen window or door 90% of the day looking out and smelling the smells.
