I put an ad on craigslist looking for someone to do some yard work for me.

I get an email from someone saying they are interested in the job - the email they used was an @ice.dhs.gov

Why in the world would someone from dept of homeland security email me? Is it a sting of some sorts? seeing if im hiring illegals? I ask this because of the ICE part...that stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement

I am guessing it didn't really come from that email address. Putting an email address on craigs list will generate a lot of spam/phishing emails.

Bet is was one of those "patriot" people looking for ads like that, so they could narc you or the lawn guy to ICE.
They buy everything at Walmart, since it's made in China & cheap, but have a problem with someone here trying to earn a living.

Sort of like the emails I get daily from the NY Highway Patrol saying I owe for a speeding ticket. Unless I'm responsible for my cab driver in NYC in 1995 for speeding, I don't think they have a case. Come get me coppers. "I'm on top of the world. hear me Ma?"

So sorry for the scare and the confusion. I still need work so I'm hoping you haven't found anyone for this job yet. I really need to work to pay my storage rent. Friend had me post a Craigslist posting, for them for someone to share a house. Every answer she got was for someone, who was going to be out of the country for a month or two, but would send a cashiers check from her uncle in Sweden.
Knew it was a scam as every reply had the exact same wording and bad punctuation.
Scam is, he sends too much so they ask for a "refund."
