:stoned Facebook Experts I need you brains!

I'm not much into social networking stuff but ... fuck it! I want to leverage my mainstream business so I created a facebook page!
Shit I was almost sleeping last night and just created a facebook page for my mainstream business, and then I created a personal profile.

And now I'm kinda confused, do I have to have a personal profile? I really don't want it, the objective is business only.

Then I read somewhere that personal profiles are for people and pages for business or comercial stuff, the thing is, I see all (ALL) my competitors using personal profiles with company names, WTF?

Can anyone enlighten me?

I have a personal page for friends, etc. and then a page for my blog. You can create a profile but do nothing to it and then be the admin of your page. I believe you have to have a personal profile to do a page because of the admin thing, but I could be wrong.

ok, so I'm not confused, my competitors are violating fb TOS, and trying to be popular with features only available for personal profiles like friends and other stuff.

SO ... I guess I have the chance to knockout ALL my competitors since they are all violating the rules, how can I do that? Using the report link?

Just reported about 30 competitors using personal profiles as business page.

How about "like" buttons, is it only available with profiles right?

I've seen mainstream websites with FB buttons, are those provided by FB?

Or are those websites using code provided by services like http://www.addtoany.com ?

The people with personal pages that are using them as business pages typically did this by accident, and it garners to real incentive to leave it this way. All they would have to do is import into a fan page now, which is what would likely happen, and that would "improve" their business.

I've actually done a lot of work with Facebook Connect, Applications and their Javascript SDK lately. It's kind of confusing in that the documentation is simple.

In any case, I'm glad you can't figure it out. Perhaps if you spend more time working on your own sites rather than "reporting" your competition you will be able to get it all working right.

Good luck. Asshole.

It's no accident, they didn't put the time, effort and research needed to be effective, in building a presence on Facebook.

Exactly.
Its really not a big deal. You are talking about some very large, intelligent businesses. And as I said, you can import it. Its not a big deal.

Social media is good, but people try to make it out to be a whole entirely other universe. Its not.

I doubt it's accidental, most of them have also a fan page, empty or with some basic contacts, but personal pages are fancy, more popular and the chances of networking it is higher, at least in theory.

And believe me I know some of them and I'm not surprised at all with this way of working, I would be surprised if they do things by the rules.

And don't worry people I'm not reporting anyone from here, nothing related with adult or interwebz business at all

And by the reactions I see here, you guys woudn't also worry if your original content (articles) were stolen by people like the ones I'm talking about, yeah it's that kind of people and I'm tired of them!
