HOw Obama feels about the GOP

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thetic...o-slamming-gop

"I said, 'You want to repeal health care? Go at it. We'll have that debate. But you're not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we're stupid?'" the president said.

Obama also complained about GOP attempts to attach a bill to the resolution to fund the government that would defund women's health services provider Planned Parenthood.

"Put it in a separate bill," the president said he told House Speaker John Boehner and his staff, CBS reported. "We'll call it up. And if you think you can overturn my veto, try it. But don't try to sneak this through."

The president also made clear he is no fan of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the GOP's Budget Committee chairman.

"When Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure... he's just being America's accountant and trying to be responsible-- this is the same guy that voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that cost as much as my health care bill--but wasn't paid for," Obama said.

Wait, I thought the healthcare bill saved money, Barry is saying it cost money now?

He sold it on it would save money, not cost money.

In that statement, he says it will cost

Something that you have been going on and on about how it will save money

Yeah, it will save us money - he never said it wouldn't.... actually tons of proof has already shown that it is saving money and will continue to do so.

That doesn't mean it also doesn't cost money, of course it costs money, just less. And yep, I've been saying it will save money, I've never said it wouldn't cost us money.

If I spend a 100 a month on a bill, and get it down to 75... I'm saving money but I'm still spending money.

Pretty simple logic to follow.

Pay attention to this..... "but wasn't paid for," Obama said."

That's Obama saying the healthcare bill is paid for, unlike what Paul introduced which just one part of it costs more than the entire healthcare bill.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpu...-assessed.html

The director of the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday that the health care reform legislation would cost, over the next ten years, $115 billion more than previously thought, bringing the total cost to more than $1 trillion.

quote from Obama
"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."

Yes, we know it costs money..... it's still cheaper than doing nothing which costs us more money.

I would still support this bill if it cost 1 trillion a year and was 100% funded by taxing us to death..... so the cost going up slightly over 10 years, is nothing.

He is saying that medicare part B wasn't paid for in the legislation.

He isn't saying anything about wether or not obamacare will save money.

Anybody know of a source that compares the costs of Medicare Part B and the Affordable Care Act?

It's a tough search - surely somebody must have placed the costs of the two side by side.

Good, it's nice seeing this side of him. Remember before when everyone was saying Obama was too nice, and too much of a pussy to take a stance on anything? Looks like he's learned.

If you look at your insurance/medical costs now as a tax and compare it to other countries socialized medicine tax, our costs in America are extremely higher with how we do it now... the collective is what makes insurance costs go down right now and it's why those countries have lower costs than we do.

I lived in Canada as well, paid taxes, etc.. used the healthcare system, zero complaints at all about it. Service was equal to the States, care was just as good... both sides pay either way but it was in Canada that I didn't have a co-pay or a bill when I left.

it's funny when you think logically, I mean either it cost money or it saves money, Obama said it cost as much as Bush's prescription drug bill and I remember everyone that's obama's little buddies on here bringing up what that cost, how's that crow taste?

like he said, the "prescription drug bill" the republicans passed, and to which obama refers, is medicare part b.

I figure comparing the prescription drug bill, Medicare Part B, with obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, is fair enough.

you can only do it in theory tho, nobody really knows what the affordable care act is actually going to cost, how it will perform in real life.

I figure comparing the prescription drug bill, Medicare Part B, with obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, is fair enough.

you can only do it in theory tho, nobody really knows what the affordable care act is actually going to cost, how it will perform in real life.
I didn't really get involved in politics much during the Bush years, didn't know all the little names for it, I was a mod here at GFY and was not allowed to get into politics or guns

Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich, that was done during the great depression and 8 years later, what saved the economy was borrowing money for the war effort and increasing manufacturing 50% , getting people to work. So get rid of NAFTA and give tax incentives to get manufacturing jobs here in the US

So then you are all for govt spending to get the economy moving? As far as forgetting history or maybe you were still in a crib, Clinton raised taxes on the rich and the economy boomed, why? Because rather than hoarding money and paying taxes on it people will do whatever they can to avoid paying high taxes which means businesses will buy new equipment for write offs, hire more people, spend more in advertising, etc. If you ever ran a business that made a lot of profit you would understand that concept.

This isn't hard to understand.... Bush's Prescript bill is 1 thing, the healthcare bill is far from one thing, if one thing is going to cost as much as many things, it's stupid when they're related... as well, if something costs you $100 a month, and you do something to save $20, you're still spending $80 - and you're saving money.

This is only complex because you choose to twist the facts in your own mind..

Green tech works, it's not one technology, it's 100's... and it's making trillions around the world already, so saying it doesn't work is kinda, well... fox newish?

For Obama to increase manufacturing, build a war machine basically, he would have to dump trillions of cash into our economy - you do understand that that's what happened during the great depression right?

Removing NAFTA isn't going to save our nation, it isn't going to supply jobs, it isn't going to help - no idea why you keep bringing it up, but clearly you're way off base on what you think it does.

Do you not agree the greatest country on earth could improve, vastly, all over the place, ever factor, ever state, from the people, to the gov, everything?

Let's pretend he did say it, why analyze it to the negative simply because Obama said it? Clearly nobody would mean it to fuck the Country over as you pretend that it means..

Clinton left on a very bad recession, because his bubble burst, that Bush and the Fed tried to correct by creating a housing bubble. How did that work out for us?

even if we are the greatest country on the planet (which you can debate, but we are definitely the planets largest economy), we are arguably in decline.

certainly we have problems. we have the national debt, infrastructre decay, trade deficits and a dependence of foreign oil, and rank behind a long list of other countries in a number of quality of life categories.

so, yes, we can use some change.

but we aren't going to get it.

we have trapped ourselves.

Recession? Clinton was out of office and 9/11 happened before we had two periods that dropped... The bubble going in 2000 didn't help 01, but it sure didn't cause the recession a year later.

Under Bush we had 3 years of recessions...

Yep. Bush came along as the economy was slowing, lowered taxes and went on a spending spree. Same thing as someone quitting their job, buying a bigger house and a new car. Its a recipe for financial disaster.

8 years of bad Clinton policies (and policies before that) contributed to the recessions in the Bush years. This shit doesnt happen over night. It is flawed economic theory that both Bush and Clinton used.

Obama is trying to lower taxes? Regardless, fighting to keep tax cuts for the richest at the expense of making old poor people pay more is beyond sociopathic.

My grandmother used to say that if you leave a place better shape than you than you found it, you did a decent job. That's an argument that's rather hard to refute.

The country was in better shape at the end of Clinton's eight year tenure than it was at the beginning. A lot better.

Bush sure as hell can't say the same thing.

The jury is still out on Obama, but it ain't looking too good for him either.

Maybe Hillary should challenge Obama in '12.

Yeah, the 2001 recession did happen over night... It's pretty much without question that 9/11 is the major cause of the 2001 Recession. We probably wouldn't have had a recession if 9/11 didn't happen - it would have been an economic slow down. Actually, if nothing had changed most economics predict we would have kept growing......

Clinton left us with a peak market, that had rebounded after a short fall, which was holding somewhat stable (with a few markets down) until 9/11 hit... it's a huge stretch to blame him for anything when he left us with money to pay the bills and another jack ass totally reversed everything.

Funny thread, I based it on that FACT that Barry said his health care law cost as much as Bush's prescription drug bill, when the whole time when he was trying to sell that piece of shit bill he said it would save money.
I'm going by what he said, but his supporters are coming up with all sorts of excuses, thats right EXCUSES!!

Everyone is saying we can't cut medicare or social security or medicaid, so how we going to afford one more entitlement?

Obama said
...today, health insurance reform is the law of the land all across America...

AT&T Inc. will take a $1 billion non-cash accounting charge in the first quarter because of the health care overhaul and may cut benefits it offers to current and retired workers...

Obama said
...over the last year, there's been a lot of misinformation spread about health care reform. There's been plenty of fear-mongering, plenty of overheated rhetoric...

AK Steel Corp... and Valero Energy announced [similar] accounting charges, saying the health care law that President Barack Obama signed Tuesday will raise their expenses.

Obama said
...You turn on the news, you'll see the same folks are still shouting about there's going to be an end of the world because this bill passed. (Laughter.) ...

On Friday, 3M Co. said it will also take a charge of $85 million to $90 million.

Obama said
...I'm not exaggerating. Leaders of the Republican Party, they called the passage of this bill "Armageddon." (Laughter.) Armageddon. "End of freedom as we know it" ...

Manufacturer John Deere announced Thursday that it expected the company's expenses to be about $150 million higher than last year...

Obama said
...So after I signed the bill, I looked around to see if there any -- (laughter) -- asteroids falling or -- (applause) -- some cracks opening up in the Earth. (Laughter.) It turned out it was a nice day. (Laughter.) ...

That came a day after Caterpillar predicted a new cost of $100 million..

Obama said
...Birds were chirping. Folks were strolling down the Mall. People still have their doctors...

Most of the new costs will come in a reduction in subsidies that about 1,400 companies receive for providing drug coverage to their retirees. In an effort to raise several billion dollars for implementing the health care package, the law makes those subsidies taxable, just like income...

Obama
From this day forward, all of the cynics, all the naysayers -- they're going to have to confront the reality of what this reform is and what it isn't... this isn't a government takeover of our health care system. They'll see that if Americans like their doctor, they'll be keeping their doctor. You like your plan? You'll be keeping your plan. No one is taking that away from you......

10 top companies, including Caterpillar, John Deere, Verizon, Xerox, Boeing and Met Life, warned Congress in December that over the long term, it would [hurt their bottom line] "Taxing the subsidy means that more companies will eliminate or reduce the coverage," they warned, "and more retirees will shift to Medicare ... which will create more cost for both the government and the retirees."
