Imagine that. I doubt many... er... anyone who supports .XXX would stand up and tell all of them they want it. But the kicker is, even if they did, it would be back to bromance as soon as the seminar was over.

And of course by the end of the seminar, no sides will be taken by those who could nip this in the ass with a quickness. Surprise again.

You're clueless.
As someone who was in the audience, I'll tell you that sides were taken, info was shared and knowledge was gained.
But hey, instead of going to the show you were most likely banging third world whores because you though THAT was more meaningful to your bottom line.

I agree with 12clicks that there were things to learn at the seminar. For those watching carefully, I think a couple companies showed their hands without intending to do so.

PimpsPromo recorded the entire session. We turned it over to the FSC who I presume will put it up. If not, I will put it up.

It was exactly as Conner and 12Clicks categorized it. Heated and very informative would be an understatement, there was no "bromance" in the room during or afterward. Colin Rowntree of Wasteland did a fucking heroic job of moderating what I saw as the most difficult, challenging seminar of my 11 years in the business. If anyone remembers what Acacia was like, this was that times 100 in every light.

The .xxx could be the best thing for the porn industry.

I doubt if this were ever to happen and can't understand the fear some have over .xxx. But let's assume it could take porn off the Internet. This is pure dreaming but let's dream.

Will some of the 100s of millions who now consume online porn not be able to in the future, without a lot of trouble?

Yes, but were will those people live? India, China, Saudi, Iran, etc. What % of our income comes from countries like these?

So our main markets will remain, US, Canada, EU, etc.

Will the millions of people buying online porn be stopping buying porn all together?

No they will go to buying offline porn. Once hooked it's tough to give up.

Will some consuming free online porn stop consuming completely?

Yes, but I suspect they will be made for by people who will also revert to buying offline porn.

It might be softcore, it might be extreme, but they will carry on.

Of course those who can't make in offline porn will have to adapt or die, like they keep telling us to do now.

No Paul, offline magazines are not about to make a comeback ? we are not entering a new "porn dark ages."

In time we will all just move our "place of 'official' business" to Idontgiveafuckistan in central Asia. Major carriers will be setting the trunk lines in soon.

Internet porn is a multi-billion dollar industry.

This is pretty much all that needs to be said. There is no way it will happen. The odds are about equal to the both of us being struck by lightning at the same time twice. There is a better chance of the internet ceasing to exist as we know it than this happening.

I believe what could happen is a certain company or groups of companies will try to exploit .xxx so they make money off of each registration in some way or are otherwise able to use it as a way to eliminate competition (mostly smaller players). I can see a few in the industry pushing for a mandatory .xxx if they can pull one or both of these things off.

You and I know that. Barry missed it. He thinks moving to a third world country will be the solution.

A third world country like Iran.

Bottom line is no one who can produce, market or sell well has anything to worry about. If .xxx was ever to wipe porn off the Internet they would be fine. In fact more than fine.

Men will flock to buy offline porn in numbers that will amaze.

I wish it would happen, sadly it won't.

Yeah I actually logged on today just to post that I think Colin did a fantastic job as moderator. He really did. He didn't have a lot of time to prepare because CCBILL took Tom Hymes off as moderator a day before ... I guess because ICM Registry doesn't like Tom since he's gone after .XXX for so long in his articles. So Colin was working on short notice and he couldn't have been better.

You don't think it might affect how many people actually BUY the things? And you don't think that matters to ICM Registry? You know I love you Paul, but these things do matter still. We tried voting with our voices... that ultimately failed. Now we get to vote with our wallets.

Will you be singing this tune if Visa tells you that you have to be on a .XXX to process adult, and then the IFFOR board decides that you need to pull have your content because it "appears" that the girls are not 18 even if you have the records?

The "fear" is easy to understand... most of us don't want a Board deciding how we can and can't run our businesses. And that's the tip of the iceberg. But of you have no fear of .XXX, I encourage you to buy a bunch of the domains and invest a lot of money into branding them. ;)

I'm guessing CCbill used Colin because he could keep himself from being overtly hostile and CCbill was looking to create an informative panel and not a witch hunt

Paul... ugh... come on man, you know better that this. It isn't about people thinking it will wipe porn off the Internet. NOBODY THINKS THAT. It's about people not wanting a board to oversee their businesses and make decisions they MUST obey at the pain of losing their domain and all their traffic if they don't. I mean, you don't understand this by now? And given the "rules" can change from year to year as the masters of .XXX find new ways to squeeze money out of us, the more you invest in one of these domains, the more your lips are attached to their nutsacks and their hands are wrapped around your throat. But you think "clever marketing" is a counter force?

Or it was because ICM Registry said they wanted Tom off... which I'm told is what actually happened. But this is GFY so you can post your guesses too if you want. ;)

For the record, I'm not complaining... Tom is a good friend of mine and I think he's a professional and would have done a great job and let everyone talk, but I run a show and understand sometimes there are competing pressures.

BTW ... you should know that when I spoke to the ICANN board in San Fran, I read to them one of your GFY comments where you basically said that speaking to them would do no good, that it was all decided and rigged, etc. Thought you'd be pleased to know that they not only heard your words, but proved you right the next day. lol

VISA-NET is not going to jeopardize their revenue Connor.

Hopefully, this whole .xxx thing will implode.
.xxx has little governmental support in the US or Europe.

People just have to get off their ass and challenge those elements that seek to utilize this new sTLD to their ends.

If anything has been learned it should be that the porn industry needs an effective plan ...

The "fear" is easy to understand... most of us don't want a Board deciding how we can and can't run our businesses. And that's the tip of the iceberg. But of you have no fear of .XXX, I encourage you to buy a bunch of the domains and invest a lot of money into branding them. ;)
The fear you talk about, is the same think a lot of people fear about Gay Marriage and Abortion.

Lamest response of the month... congrats, coming up with that must have hurt your head! Because you're soooo right, anonymous troll, not wanting to have a board of people make decisions about my business is exactly like not wanting Gay men to marry each other.

You MAY have been told that by SOMEONE but certainly not a decision maker.
And trust me son, I never have to guess.

Exactly. There was a solid half hour wasted with idiot fearmongering and idiot questions about irrelevant topics.
But that's the risk you take when you hand the microphone to the crowd

I see you've shed the "docile 12clicks" that you take out for live appearances and replaced him with the "12clicks" keyboard warrior we all know so well. Welcome back, "son."

You confuse docile with ignoring the rabble.
I don't go to shows to chit chat with hangers on.

in my opinion, the most valid point there was my jd obenburger (sp?), who said that your best defense here is to make sure your domains are trademarked, then if ICM registry registers one of your domains/trademarks, which they can see via a publically available list, you can legally go after ICM.

i didnt see anything on obenburger's site, but another adult attorney, matt collins offer it, this is very smart to do http://www.mpcpc.com/trademarks

All due respect to the few people in this thread who I like and who didn't go to the show, much less the .xxx panel, whatever speculation you have is moot until you see / listen to it.
