How to make billions on the net (an idea I had today)

Not sure if you think its a great idea or not, but my idea was to set up a bank and trade with your own currancy.

My thought is simple.

People pay you say with pay pal, and they get say tokens.

these could be banked in your bank or used to pay for items on the net or even the real world.

if they wanted to transfer the credits back they can, but most likly they would use credits.

Ideal for internet games and even porn.

all you need do is develop your own currancy and thats it.

you would be making billions if it was popular as people would be giving you cash like crazy.

It's already been done. We've exchanged the Chuck-E-Cheese currency for something called a 'Euro', though. You don't seem to get as many plays with the new tokens.

Go get a Bank Charter then. Belize only requires $250K Capital minimum for "off shore bank charters." Lichtenstein will grant you one for 10 million euros ...

Here are a couple of real hurdles you will have to overcome for this to work. There have been many sites that have tried something like this and as far as I know none of them worked very well.

1. you will have to get a lot of different sites that will be willing to take these credits as currency.

2. you will have to give some type of added value to the credit. For example if $1 gets me 1 credit and an item costs me 10 credits to buy or I could just buy it for $10 from Amazon I have no reason to use the credit system, I can just buy with my card and save the trouble of getting credits. So I would have to be able to buy the item for less, say 7-8 credits. Or those credits would have to be able to be used somewhere that only those are acceptable currency and they have a monopoly on the product/service.

3. Fraud. It will only be a matter of time until people figure out how to defraud your system so you will have to invest in security.

Just a few thoughts, but honestly the hardest part is going to be getting enough sites to use the credits that it makes them worth buying.

What do you think facebook has been trying to do for a while now????? Do you think they offer their facebook currency in games and apps and plan to stop there?? It is a known ambition they want to control the virtual currency market. The idea is a few years too late.

Also as far as Kane's point #2 that I vehemently disagree with. You absolutely don't have to offer a better DEAL you have to offer SOMETHING better. That can be easy... anonymity. Your card is billed by vccorp [virtual currency corp... fiction of course] and you can then buy whatever you want wherever you want [porn sites!] and nobody can tie it to YOU.... because instead of a NAME and account # you have a VCC account and some other identification. vccorp keeps your identity a secret and BAM even I would sign up just so nobody knows wtf I am buying online. Pay for Privacy.

There are some games that have implemented their own economy with success. Second Life comes to mind with the L$ (linden dollar). Players exchange their countries currency for L$'s and L$'s for their countries currency. The L$ even increases and decreases in value as real world dollars do. They use L$'s to purchase goods, services, and virtual real estate in the game.

Implementing this type of system in the "real" world would definitely take some doing. I suppose if you were to design megastorewebsite.com and fill that site with products you earn a commission on, it could work. You could afford to offer x amount of megastorewebsite.com dollars for real dollars and still come out ahead in profit, and by forcing users to exchange their real dollars for yours, you're guaranteed either profit from selling products or from users who don't use all of the megastorewebsite.com dollars they purchased.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_currency

Three of the corporations providing Internet currency, InternetCash.com, Flooz.com and beenz.com, were shut down in August 2001 ... Many users of the currency lost money, and some complained to the site, and, specifically, to Whoopi Goldberg, who had been the spokesperson for Flooz.com
