Enough with .XXX. It only works if.....

you dummies fall for the bullshit and buy the domains.

if you don't buy the domains, the asshole can't fund the marketing campaigns and efforts to make it mandatory with any agency or goverment that the leech is going to try to influence.

your fear is this asshole's fuel.

don't buy the domains, and it will die in a year or two.

if you give him any money at all, you are supporting him staying alive.

if someone buys your domain, you use the icm rules against them as a trademark holder. tm holders do not have to pay to have the domain inactivated.

do not buy domains in .xxx.

without money coming in, this thing is a dead duck.

You are correct. It will be interesting to see who runs out and buys them. You know that is going to happen.

You are 100% correct. The problem I think is gonna be with newer breed of domain sellers who are gonna rush and buy these domains to resell. So initially i think there will be a lot of buying which will suck.

I sell adult domains and do not plan on purchasing any but the if it does take off then that market is gonna open up and force reluctant domainers like myself to jump in.

In one of the other threads someone quoted over 200,000 .xxx domains on reserve. I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. I don't want the shit either but we're talking about the adult industry and there is no loyalty or coming together here and there hasn't been anything resembling it in many years. I bet most of the big guys already picked up thousands of domain names. I notice many are suspiciously silent. Let's face it the honor or community action in this industry as a whole is no better than that between a gang of thieves (and most at the top are now nothing more than thieves, quite ironic!). There are decent people but for the most part it's dog eat dog.

you people are so delusional its not even funny. Have you ever heard of domain brokers? you know all those assholes who buy tens of thousands of domains, and mark them up about 1000x just waiting for 1 idiot to come a long a year to buy so they can cover the renewal fees for all of their domains.

First of all the new adult industry "leaders" are companies like AFF who used spayware to fuck everyone, Mansef who advertises on the pirate bay to try to make a buck, and big tube sites who profit off of your stolen content. Do you think any of those types of people wouldn't hesitate to go buy 1000s of dot xxx domains if they thought they could flip them for profit?

BEYOND our industry, there is a whole another industry just for domain buyers/sellers. Those people, as I mentioned above, are going to jump all over this too. Hell, these people are already waiting in line. They going to buy the .xxx of your .com's then sell it back to most of you at a MUCH higher price.

Come on people, you think by now you would have learned the "nobody buy .xxx and lets show them!" idea has .000000000000001% chance of happening, why even waste your time posting about it.

I agree with Wil, it's a tough and nearly impossible proposition. There are just too many people out there that could care less and only see the profit. Like i said earlier in this thread, it will force the hand of even the reluctant adult domainer who wants to support the cause.

ok, buy them then.

enjoy your new home on the internet and the rules that come with your dictator stuart.

domain brokers can only afford to run their business when they sell what they buy. they can't sit on them each year and just keep racking up 65 dollars a year per domain.

believe me or not, i don't care.

buy domains = get used to calling stuart daddy.

don't buy domains = piss on his grave in a few years when his stld dies.

see if i care. no dog in the fight.

It'll probably be a lot like the DMCA tubes. They all opened their own around 2007 and coincidentally started basically telling webmasters to fuck off (closing accounts, changing terms, magic tripling ratios). Only 2-3 years later did you see the real reason why (if you were paying attention). A few still try to keep their shady tubes a secret. Expect the same. They won't own up until they are forced to show their hand such as when someone begins making it mandatory. Then you'll see they had a shitload reserved even before today.

A few hypothetical domain examples:

If you have pigmonkeyslut.com and get ok traffic and a few sales you do not even need to consider .xxx

Say you have pigslut.com and you get decent sales but nothing crazy, .xxx is probably just another hassle and extra cost to maintain.

If you have pig.com or slut.com then what if any extra percentage of traffic or revenue does having the .xxx versus blocking it with your trademark for no charge provide?

Yes, good thinking but... pretty pointless since it's like saying to people who see an occasion don't go for it. It's like some damned money laying on a street and you say stay away from that money those are bad money. People will go for top keywords no matter what... and if they will go for the top ones the other people will repeat the scheme with second class ones or the ones that they already have .com equivalents.
Just don't think I'm saying it all because I'm just going to register some, I am not going to register/preregister any.

Negative. In fact a lot of the information that I have seen is hosted by the ICM registry, for example: http://www.icmregistry.com/Sunrise/ICM.html

just look at the .co... Most domainers rushed in hoping for .com typo traffic only to find there's no traffic and no one willing to buy those domains.

I noticed that thehun doesn't have any porn on his domain so people like that would never need to flop over. The gold rush to xxx might be very short lived.

What does it matter if we buy from them or not??? if 100K's of domains are already registered it means:

1. Fuck face Stuart made money, and I so bad wanted to see that fat fuck lose on it this con.
2. It makes the govt think it is accepted by the industry since they can point to so many registrations and make it easier for them to try to "potentially" force us to use them.
3. Some of you will buy from them eventually.

think for a second.... i don't know why you miss shit like this when it seems like common sense to me.

If you own a .com and .co comes out will you lose traffic to people all of a sudden going to the ".co" of your domain. Fuck no. Now if you own a .com of a porn site and .xxx comes out do you think some people will go to the .xxx, especially since the media is going to hype the shit out of this between now and the day it goes live??? YES. How can you people even compare .co, mobi and all that other shit to .xxx if you own a porn site.

Those are pre registrations which may not actually happen. There was a lot of confusion all along and when the actual time comes for the registrations to go through they very well might not happen. That's just my assumption though. Like event planning and having 20% no shows especially considering the possible identification criteria? And in addition, I agree that non industry folk think this is a great opp for then to make money in porn, not realizing that it takes more than just owning a domain.

You guys are so in denial if you don't think 100K's of registration are going to happen.

If given the chance to purchase a "good" keyword domain for .xxx 90% of you would. The ONLY thing stopping most of you from buying is the fact that all of the decent domains will already be taken.

I guess this is the "crutch" you people want to lean on now. Since it's passed and looks like we have to deal with it, no one wants to give up hope so the new plan is "no one buy, it will just go away in a couple years".

Come on, I hate that fuck fuck Lawley, and am as pissed as the rest of you. But it is sad to see the delusional people in these threads thinking that they can rally everyone to not buy so it will go away.

Yes, on "launch day" if you like, surfers will rush to .XXX to check out all the "greatest, latest sexy pornez on teh webz"

And THEN they'll realize it's all paid for and nothing free, and they'll go back to .com's again...

Just another day in the life of the internet.

Agreed! Might as well grab what you can.

The idea that this industry would stick together and work as one when faced with a threat was brilliantly displayed years ago on the Acacia patents fight. Some run to get the license in the hope it would stick and others would be out of the business. Few stood up to be counted. After Acacia were beaten by the few. Everyone went back to supporting those who tried to knife them in the back.

Today the biggest threat is Tubes, but people kiss Fabian's ass to get their long clips on his site. And how many people still send traffic to dating and cam sites who advertise on Tubes?

Some will rush to buy these .XXX domains in the hope they become compulsory and the cost is $1,000 or more per year. To get rid of all those who can't afford it. Remember in better days all the squealing over Visa's $750 charge? Some couldn't afford it and got out. Some could and had to cut back for a few months. This in good times.

Companies like AFF, Manwin and many other big ones will scream with glee if the .XXX becomes compulsory and the price is $5,000. Because it culls the opposition but leaves every single porn surfer still surfing for porn. The same income, just less to share it.

It's called "Being in a real Business World."

Unfortunately a lot of idiots are already buying them while they swear on public: "no I will never do that!"

Personally I feel ok with .com and .net so why should I spent any money for useless .xxx? Even if it will cost one dime, I won't buy it because it will be filtered out by search engines and won't make me any profit

I can only go by what I have seen happen with other new tld's. Lots of money spent in the landrush auctions. Retarded domains going for retarded amounts but 1-2 years later they are worthless, no one wants them and the people who dished out money realize they were screwed and just like xxx, promises were made of .eu being the .com of europe (didn't happen) .mobi being the .com of mobile sites (didn't happen) and .asia being the .com for asia (didn't happen). tons of domains will be bought, some will be used but i bet 70-80% will be dropped especially considering the rip off prices though I also predict prices to drop when domain registrations start to slow and people don't renew what they bought initially.

what a lot of people are forgetting is that .com is the internet to just about everyone. you'll have to re-educate people to use .xxx. Right now, the average person hasn't a clue about it. Good luck with that since people have been using .com's for the past 15 years. its like starting all over again, zero traffic, zero everything..

I could make one or two educated guesses along those lines.

But that is all they would be, so I won't.

like i already said comparing other tld's to xxx (if you own a porn site) is being ignorant.

If you own livesex.com and they come out with .co, .me, .us How many people are going to start typing in livesex.me ? NONE.

How many will type in livesex.xxx some people will, especially after the media educates them and makes them aware that there is now an "adult area of the internet". I wouldn't be surprised if tens of thousands of people start typing in adult domains with .xxx just to see what is there. If you really think this is the same as .me, .co, . whatever, then you are insane if you can't see the huge difference.

type in traffic is dying more and more every day. anyone who owns quality domains can tell you that, in adult or mainstream type in traffic is trickle compared to what it once was. almost no one types in domains anymore. if anything it will be kids typing in the .xxx domains. there might be a brief surge at some point in time but i don't expect it to last, if it even happens.

how much mainstream publicity do you really think .xxx will get? i bet not much. all the news channels will talk about it a couple times for a couple of weeks maybe then its old news. its going to take a huge, and i mean massive marketing campaign just to let the average person know xxx is out there, let alone want to use it.

if i am totally wrong, then hey, it wouldn't be the first time. anyone out there who thinks .xxx will kill adult .com's is welcome to email me with what you want to sell, i may take it off your hands for rock bottom prices because i am a nice guy like that..

The lobby outside of "the industry" will be making / is making / has made .xxx a reality. The industry is nothing more than a mosquito buzzing in the ear of the mainstream power players and money behind this effort.

There is already an entire business segment waiting to explode onto the scene to deal with .xxx and many other proposed TLD's.

I'm not saying I agree with this direction but like Will I think people are delusional if they think this will do anything but grow.
